A current player tells a recruit we are loaded and don't need him....

Honestly, that's a hugely foolish assumption. Quite a big stretch from what the audio suggests.

And I honestly believe the title of this thread should be changed, because it isn't accurate. A lot of people won't listen to that audio.

I think Walker sugar coated it because Vareen told him that they had more WR than Planter's has nuts. I don't know if Vareen actually told him NOT to come here, but I would say he inferred it somewhat in there conversations. I just don't see why Walker would mention it if this were not the case.

Right, but the evidence provided makes the title of the thread completely speculative. Whereas the title implies it as fact.

I seriously don't think I know anybody who make that jump from the audio to your thought process. Seems dramatic.

So now you are upset at what a player 'inferred' to a recruit. :p

I think you are making a bit much of this.

I was honestly shocked after reading eric's post, then listening to the audio. Nowhere close, IMO, to what the title says.

I guess I am trying to figure out just how Vareen's assessment of our incoming talent was an indication to Walker not to consider us. It's just funny he was thinking about us hard until they had that conversation. I know it maybe a stretch to some degree, but in this day and age you have to wonder about things.

Funny how many are willing to throw anyone, and everyone under the bus based on one post. I wonder how many people now have some tarnished view of Vareen that will go unchanged regardless of the kid's contributions to the program.

I didn't listen to the audio, but I find it hard to believe a member of our team would tell some other kid that we didn't need him here. To me, it seems that he probably just gave an honest assessment, one that the coaches would likely mirror. It doesn't take a genius to see that the cupboard is pretty full at WR. There are 3-4 guys who'll be upperclassmen next year as well as 2 that will be sophomores, but may start, and a couple more waiting to really get into the mix due to redshirt/injury. There's a lot of talent that will be around for 3-4 more years. If I were a recruit I would want to know the truth about how I would really stand if I went to a school.

Let me say this, I have no problem with Vareen at all. If he did it, so be it nothing we can do now. If he didn't, so be it and Walker made the decision on his own without any of Vareen's advice. Either way, players need to let the coaches tell a player they don't have a scholly or room for them and not a player on the roster. Walker bringing it up can only enhance the fact something may have been said between the two. It's all speculation at the point, but Vareen should have referred Walker to the coaches instead of doing what he did, friend or not. All I know is that every player that has or had a friend that the school has recruited has told them to pick a school that's right for them, not told them about all the incoming talent and scared them off.

Sometimes making assumptions is all we can do. I guess because right now assumptions is all we have at the point because of not knowing where Fulmer is going with the coaching changes. Gotta have something to talk about other than this frustrating coaching search.

This seems like too much criticism of a current player, IMO.

One guy is a Vol, the other guy is not. Why don't we simply support the one who is for now guys?

Be a Homer this time. :)

We don't really know what was said, and if someone told someone else we have a lot of young talent at WR, well, the truth is what it is. Now if we can get the truth to the best DT recruit in the country, that would help.

I guess the one's that haven't played yet. By loaded, he may have meant that we weren't losing any starters or their backups. Who knows.

Heck, you should have been here a few weeks ago when people were accusing Trooper of influencing kids to transfer if he wasn't given the OC job. You want to talk about wild speculations based off of a few comments by Austin Rogers... geez. That got way out of hand also.

We have capable receivers in Rogers and Taylor. Briscoe is coming into his own, and Hancock has the ability to impress. Gerald Jones will be a star receiver here. Moors has been very impressive in his limited time. Ahmad Paige is supposed to be the real deal.

I guess if we based everything on facts we wouldn't need talk radio or message boards. Where else could people make stuff up and have it accepted as gospel truth?

This thread title isnt even accurate...Vereen never said "we are loaded" in the sound clip...So stop whining about what WR's make us loaded...

Apparently Dave Hooker was interviewing Deon Walker, a recruit from Virginia, when Walker said that Daryl Vareen told him we are "loaded" at WR and don't need him. He is now considering other schools because of this. This is not a rumor and did come straight from Walker himself. This is a bit disturbing and conceited to be coming from one of our redshirt freshman.

Thoughts??

I found a link to the audio. Seems to me this is exactly what he told him but Walker just didn't come out and say it like that. You be the judge.

Again people, don't wrap quotes around words/phrases if a person didn't actually say them.

Walker would be a dumba** if he turns down tennessee simply by what Daryl Vareen told him. He did not come to UT because he did not want to, period.

based on that clip... how you could listen to that and then turn things around is beyond me. absolutely ridiculous
