A couple of player tweets

Because good coaches make a difference and we all hoped that Jones was a good coach.

Yeah, we've all heard Jones repeat over and over how young his team is. They've heard it too. Just one more way of saying, "I don't trust you". Then... he confirms it by taking the game out of their hands when they're playing well and winning by 2 TD's. Suddenly he has to "manage" it for them so they don't screw it up.

UF's depth chart has A LOT of young players in it... they expected to win a big game vs UT... AND DID.

In his post-game presser, the Florida head coach stated "Maybe we didn't deserve it, but, we'll take it." He also said "... we're just not supposed to lose to Tennessee." That's their mind-set. How do WE get one of those?

If Medley would concentrate on making kicks, Butch wouldn't be on the hot seat.

Don't blame the kicker cause the coach couldn't manage a clock and decided he didn't need either 2 points or a first down to finish the game.

This is NOT on the kicker, the kid had NEVER ATTEMPTED a kick over 50 yards in his life and you want to trot him out there and try it?

This is squarely on the coaches and no one else. The players gave everything they had, it's the coaches who lost it for them.

I'd like for him to simply change the way he coaches in the 4th qtr with a lead. Stop coaching not to lose... and put the game in the hands of the players then coach to win.

UT threw the ball 19 times vs UF. There were two receptions for 7 yards by WR's. And this... for a team that is absolutely loaded with talented WR's.

It would have surprised the WORLD if on one of the last two drives he'd called a pass beyond 10 yds to a WR.

If there's another issue that approaches his failing in game management as a cause for these losses... it is the MASSIVE underutilization of UT's WR talent.

Could not agree more, sjt. Watching game film should illustrate your point(s) to a fair-the- well. I just don't get it. Surely Butch is not that stubborn, is he? Hope not...

This is only true if you strip Jones from the context of every other coach in college football. No. He didn't rebuild the program from "nada" any more than Freeze did or McElwain is. He certainly didn't face the hill Franklin did at Vandy.

NONE of the problems you cited are the reason UT has lost two very winnable games this year... not one. The "panty wipes" are those who make the kinds of excuse laden posts that you just made that have NOTHING to do with the very obvious fact that Jones lost those two games by coaching not to lose and refusing to trust his players to win the game.

Amen!!! Your posts this morning should be Fed Exed straight to Butch Jones and staff.

I literally was sick to my stomach after losing Saturday. I was so upset by the way we had lost. But a couple of days removed, I am beginning to think with a clearer head. I believe that Butch has us headed in the right direction. Fans want instant gratification and with the hype of winning the East which we all knew was a long shot this year, the fans begin to snowball. For those who think the recruits will jump ship. I think the only way they jump ship is for the fans to keep crying for Butch's head. Opposing coaches will use this. We just need to shut up and let Butch finish the process. Now in a couple years if we aren't better, then we can talk but for now. Quit b........ing. Yes, you heard that from a preacher.

I'm not excusing the coach at all. But, the facts are the facts:

1. Big missed, makeable kick in 3rd quarter against OU likely would have been the difference.
2. Although a long one, he missed the 55 yarder against Florida that would have won it.

He has not started the season well.

You need to keep in mind the fact that a high school athlete and those who guide them that actually know something about football, look at things from a different perspective than the average VN contributor.

Well buddy here's the common sense perspective - why go to a university to play WR where I will not get the ball thrown to me and have an opportunity to shine?

Are you kidding me? A 55 yarder with all the pressure of the game and he narrowly misses. You don't have a clue. Medley is a great kicker who had a couple bad kicks to start the year.

I don't care that the kicker hasn't started the season well, the fact still remains, on this last kick he should've never been in that position.

Look I'm first to jump on a kicker for missing a FG cause that's all they do, but this game just like the OU game should've been over halfway through the 3rd quarter.

We need to worry less about the kicker making FGs and worry more about why our coaches keep going into a shell and playing not to lose instead of playing to win, two big games, same calls made, same results.

When the HS coach I played for years ago arrived, we hadn't beaten our main rival (same school Jimmy Streater played for) for years. More than 10 I'm sure. They thought of us much like UF thinks of UT... a rival... but not really. More like a pet you tease a little each year before taking the bone away.

We had about half the enrollment of the other schools in our conference and hadn't won the conference in about 25 years.

He broke the team down and demanded perfect execution. He ran off some prima donnas. By the time his first team took the field... they were convinced they couldn't lose.

He broke that streak in his 2nd year and won about 75% of his meetings with them. Oh, their coach at the time was the all time winningest coach in NC HSFB history.

We played that way for all of my 3 years. I started playing varsity in his 3rd year. We were playing a class above what our enrollment says we should have but won a state title and lost a total of 5 games in 3 years. Four of those 5 losses came to teams that won state championships in the same season... to include a 7-6 loss in the state semi's my Sr year against a team that won the championship game by about 40.

He was always criticizing and correcting... but somehow he always said the right things to make us believe we were going to win every game. No excuses about not being fast enough... big enough... athletic enough. We almost never had an advantage in talent. But we believed.

The confidence a coach has and demonstrates in his team goes a long way toward determining the confidence they play with....

So I guess all you people jumping off the cliff predicted us to go undefeated this year or what 11-2? If you for one second thank that we are not a better team than 3 years ago then put the mug down and sober up. We should be 4-0, YES , but we are not. I'm not ready to run butch and the coaches out of town. WE are building up and yes our time is coming. WE had some dropped passes Saturday which could have kept drives going, its not on Dobbs. He had a superior effort. WE need improved pass protection so he can set up and throw downfield. Funny how our pass protection the last few years has been better but the run blocking was awful. Now it seems to have reversed as we ran the ball against a very good defensive line. These coaches willl figure it out. Stop the negativity. You're not helping anyone but our opponents. These kids are giving their all for Tennessee. I as a fan will do the same. If you can't or won't then like the parent said, Go cheer for Bama their fans are wishy washy too.
GO VOLS Still behind you 1000 %

Read my post before bashing. I dont excuse the coaching mistakes at all.

But, Medley has missed some big kicks this season. Truth.

Yeah I read your response, but it appears at least in my point of view and a few others that you are placing the blame on the kicker.

Were there some kicks he should've made? Yes, but where do you stop blaming the kicker for missing a FG and blame the coach because he decided that running three straight plays into the heart of the opposing teams defense was a smart idea?

Now had this game come down to a scenario where we were coming from behind and the kicker missed, then I could say that you might want to put a little bit of blame on him.

With that said, we were ahead both times by two scores, there is no excuse for these kind of royal screw ups. Whether the kid missed a few FGs or not, when your coach decides to A.) not throw the ball, ever, and B.) just depend on a defense that looks like it is about to break. This team won't win much with that kind of thinking.

They play hard for the man. I think this team is light years ahead of where they were just a year ago. I have seen improvements all over the field including the coaches box. If they can just get their end of game management process worked out now, this team will be playing for a national championship the next 2 years.

I've been super critical of Buch Jones, especially after Saturday's debacle, but having had some time to reflect back just to 2 seasons ago; even I have to admit huge strides have been made. Not only has he recruited well, but he has coached these young soph and FR up into solid ball players.

Now all that's left to do is for him to lead them aggressively in the 4th qtr, and trust them to make the plays they need to based on what the down and distance calls for.

You don't win races with your foot on the brake before you cross the finish line. Pressure wins championships, not prevent.

Kid gave it his all and narrowly missed; I thought it was going to hit the upright. Can't blame the kicker at all. We shouldn't have been in that situation to start with. And ....
things happen; unfortunately the other UT, 70 miles up the road from me, is experiencing the same thing, losing in the last few seconds. Doesn't make our pain any easier but _hit happens! Hopefully Butch & company will learn from these 2 losses. I said "hopefully"...

Fans are stupid. *****in' and moaning (entitled) but we know NOTHING about what is really going on inside the team except what we perceive or read that was written just to stir emotion.
Grow up Volnation - we all want to be winners.
It's a DEEP HOLE we are emerging from.
