A concerning trend

I don’t buy this end of the half/beginning of the half bs. I think the main reason Tennessee blows those periods is lack of confidence and lack of coaching experience. Those factors will all change as Pruitt gets his guys in there and he learns more about being a head coach. I like Pruitt but he was a high school position coach less then 10 years ago. I live in Hoover Alabama and he begged for a job on Rush Propsts team. The guy is tenacious for sure but he has a lot to learn. He’s either a rising star or a blow out. My thought is he’s a rising star but we have to go through his learning experience. He’s done well in my opinion but time will tell. The only downside if he.becomes a rising star is the Bama connection. Make no mistake this guy is gumper through and through. If he does well here and Saban retires he’s gone if the gumps offer him. I’ve met him and his family and the are elephants through and through

We just got whipped up front on both lines of scrimmage. You can debate all you want about why ,but that's what happened. On TV they just looked physically bigger.
They are. UT needs the new strength coach to be a huge success.

Don’t believe it’s the strength coach I think he’s doing a decent job. What you’re pointing out I think is what coach Pruitt was speaking to when he said recruiting cycles are the answer.

Take the ball first if you win the toss and quit deferring. Try to be the one to score first instead of trying to stop them which they have not done all year.

I think the team under the previous staff learned a loser's mentality. CJP has had a tough job ahead of him. Most of our problems don't have CJP's name on them but all the solutions do. It's what he signed on for

When the players revolted and Butch fired the strength coach, that is when he lost it. You are exactly right, and he is not there to be their friend. Too bad this guys is no longer available.

I don't believe all this talk about Pruitt being a great defensive mind. I think he was lucky he had some great players which made him look good.

I think Pruitt has a strong defensive acumen; however, that dont mean hes a great HC. During the game, the HC makes his $$$ at the beginning and end of halves. It was crystal clear 2 years ago this team had far different results during those times. This trend hasnt been fixed yet.

I realize what you are saying is true for sure. However, one should still expect the defense to be better than this mess we have.

Concerning trend?
I am of the philosophy that the quality of coaching can be determined in how a team performs in the following time periods

a. At the beginning of halves (1st half - Pregame prep) and (2nd half - Halftime adjustments)
b. At the end of halves (The last two minutes when you are going against the other team AND the clock)

What I have noticed is we are getting destroyed in those timeframes. I know there is a talent deficiency compared to some teams but is this a major issue or should I go ahead and put the bottle down and get some sleep. My thoughts would be if its all talent issues then we would be getting whipped fairly evenly throughout the game and not at certain spots.

For the 5 games against Power 5 teams. Beginning of halves is defined as first 7 mins and end is last 2 mins

WVU (Lost by 26) (Lost the beginning and end of halves by 27)
UF (Lost by 26) (Lost the beginning and end of halves by 7)
UGA (Lost by 26) (Lost the beginning and end of halves by 21)
Auburn (Won by 6) (Lost the beginning and end of halves by 11)
Bama (Lost by 37) (Lost the beginning and end of halves by 37)

In total, we have been outscored by 109 points in those 300 mins (5 games). 103 of the 109 point differential has come at the beginning and the end of the halves (which is only 90 of the 300 minutes played).

Is this a coincidence, bad luck, or a concerning trend?

Update for USC game - Lost by 3. Lost beginning and end of halves by 7.

Concerning trend is that we are losing every game now ?
