Lexvol made me think about this. I can't remember them all, so lets see how many we can remember, and if you want to throw out one or two of their songs feel free to do so. :good!:
What qualifies as 'alternative'? Are we talking rock? Americana? trance? Can a big chartbuster like Pearl Jam or Nirvana really be considered alternative?
What I liked in the 90s was how some 80s alt-rock acts finally got a payday/hit, even if they did have to sell out a bit to do it. Examples:
Divynils "I Touch Myself"
Meat Puppets "Backwater"
Red Hot Chili Peppers everything from Mothers' Milk onward
Might Mighty Bosstones "The Impression That I Get"
Alejandro Escovedez
Beck
Ben Harper
Blur
Built to Spill
Catherine Wheel
Come
Cornershop
Cracker
Elastica
Folk Implosion
Foo Fighters

Last I read, its pretty good - he was about down for the count with the old Hepatitis though.
He sells out here as well. There's a great live album called "More Miles than Money" that is a good intro to AE and good one to have if you can only have one.
On a side note, I spent one of the best nights and early mornings of my life at 5 points in Birmingham with Super Tyrone. Those guys were great, and the drunker I got the better they sounded.
On the positive side, there's a place called WorkPlay that was started by Alan Hunter (original MTV VJ!). Great venue - it's also a set of studio's and production facilities for film and music.
