#9 Tennessee vs MTSU Game Thread

Been a UT basketball fan since I was 5 (I am now middle aged and grew up in Stokely with Ray and Stu and the unicycles and the orange paper run throughs), and am elated with Bruce and the program we now have. We are a top ten team, and from reading most posts one might think we are one of the many lovable but perhaps not so talented teams that I loved (and some endured) during the late 70s, 80s, 90s and pre-Bruce. I know it can be frustrating, but please find a way to be at least a little less critical...You would think we got destroyed from the posts tonight and it was a 20+ point win. ESPN JUST CALLED IT A ROUTE! (sp?) I guess many are haters, others get drawn in by them and some actually want to give true constructive criticism. Enjoy what we have and enjoy the ride AND try and say something positive....it has never been anywhere close to this good in my 47 years. Go Vols and Go Bruuuuuuce!

We need a big man who stays in the paint and works hard, not who floats on the perimeter more times than not. Wayne would be an All-American if he kept his mind on boxing out and used his talents wisely. We don't need him shooting threes, he may be adept at it, but we need him more doing work on the boards and down low. Hopson has disappointed the past few games, hope it isn't a trend. He is shooting well from 3, but terrible(especially for a shooting guard) from the line. We have to get more physical and it has to happen fast before we play real, competitive, hard-nosed teams. I miss the days of having bangers in the paint who weren't afraid of contact. Give me a hard worker like Major Wingate down low, that's what we need to help in the half court. Do work, Vols :peace2:

I would tell yall what I though about seeing the game live but unfortunately even tho I was at the Sommet Center tonight I did not see the game live. I heard it live but I did not see it. Floor seats at the Sommet Center are messed up! MTSU sends out a huge email about getting first come first serve tickets to get on the floor, i jump on that and get my floor seats. Me and my buddies walk in a lil late tonight and get seats about five rows back on the floor. Apparently thats not where you want to be. The floor at the Sommet Center tilts back so the people in front were quite a bit taller than us. We watch most of the game via jumbo tron. FML

Yeah that's where our seats were in last year's OVC tournament. Definitely not the best view in the house...

You got me, Honestly, it looks to me like roles need to be defined. As a Coach myself, you have to have clearly defined roles, and I don't see it. Tyler and Scotty have to be our leading scorers. Wayne has to be given the ball in the paint and go to work, we all have to buy into defense and I think we play too many guys. It is hard to build team chemistry when you play 3 -4 minutes with the same group and then subs come in.

welcome to pearl ball.

CBP said its up to the "leaders" on the team to take charge. lol.

i find myself slipping into the pearl doubter/hater zone much quicker than i like to.

Watching the game at the Sommet in Nashville, and I'm very disappointed at our band's/mascot performance. Mtsu has played AT LEAST a dozen more times than our band. We may be spanking the Blue Raiders, but they spanked us tonight in team spirit.

It was a home game for MTSU. Complain to the MTSU marketing. Perhaps you didn't notice every single MTSU add, announcement, team intro, New Orleans Bowl invitation, etc. I'm surprised the band was allowed to show up. WKU was the same way for the second game.

Nice post and welcome to VN. Don't let the haters get to you. Just do like I do and stay away from the "Bruce Pearl sucks" will "Tenn win a national championship" types of threads. It gets old and it's the same stuff in every thread.

An FYI on the band situation, I read a post on Vandymania by a member of the Vandy Pep Band and they did say that for the WKU game, it was a WKU home game and therefore the Vandy band was limited as to how much they could play. They were specifically told when and how many times they could play. They also said the same thing applied for the UT pep band during the MTSU game, and that the UT band was almost escorted out because they played more than they were supposed to.

So that's why the UT band was so "lame", they were forced to be.
