9:40 pm tip time on Saturday

It’s not about young athletes playing late. It’s how the NCAA uses the time slots from one round to the next. St. John’s, Michigan, and Texas Tech played the 3 late games last night and turn around and play 3 of the 4 earliest games tomorrow. They always have one game play by itself early afternoon on Saturday, and that is St. John’s. I guess it is because of their NY fan base. Then, they cram 6 game starts in a 4 hour window. They put all 3 west teams in late night games even though they had early starts on Thursday. It’s not “all about the student athlete.” I’ve been discussing this for several years now.
Rational people on here understand your point. Disregard those who want to argue every point. Most haven’t played a day of competitive sports in their life and/or thrive on arguing.

The time shouldn't be an issue for these guys, but that 7'3 ogre UCLA has just might. USU had a hard time going inside.

Utter horseshit. It likely won’t start until 10pm which gives UCLA every advantage. The NCAA will always do whatever it can to put us in hole when it has the means
You knew it was going to be late since we are playing UCLA. Has nothing to do with us but attempt to have an audience in that time period.

Such a nonsense response. You think 10 p.m. is late for a bunch of 20 year old college athletes???? Much rather play at 10 that at noon.
Right, always bitching about something. It’s hilarious that in someway the same folks see this as a disadvantage like the guys have never played a 9 pm tip before. Hell, we get a whole day of rest today

Nah, there's actual science behind this and plenty of sleep studies to back it up. Obviously doesn't mean we can't or won't win, but there is absolutely a disadvantage for us with that start time.

How Circadian Advantage Plays Into March Madness Performance

If your team is playing at a time that would normally be very late in the evening, you are at a circadian disadvantage. I suggest those players try to align their internal clocks to the game time by pushing their body clock later. That means sleeping in, practicing at night, and using bright light in the evening to suppress melatonin and delay the circadian rhythm.

For example: if the 49ers are playing the Jets for a game which starts at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, the 49ers are playing biologically at 5:30 p.m., which coincides with the time of peak physical performance from a circadian standpoint (late afternoon/early evening). When researchers analyzed 40 years of Monday Night Football, the west coast teams beat the point spread twice as often as the east coast teams!

And a more recent study that focused specifically on NBA players: Time zones and tiredness strongly influence NBA results, study of 25,000 matches shows

I get why they do it, but this has been discussed the last few years. They always put the blue bloods in prime time spots for the second round games. I wasn’t too thrilled when our Duke game a couple of years ago was a late afternoon game after a late night game for round one. We know it’s the NCAA but don’t ever discuss what’s “good for the student athlete.”
For me the bigger issue is why they are scheduling super late games on the East coast and not the West Coast, not so much about which schools play late. Having 10 pm tip offs ok the East coast while games in places like Denver will be wrapping up is just nonsensical.

It's utterly stupid to think the NCAA powers that be get in a room and make sure UT gets the latest tip. It's just so dumb and narcissistic to always think everyone is out to get Tennessee and that people are working around all of the schedules to somehow mess with Tennessee. It makes my brain hurt seeing those posts.

*morons

They care about it more than you think.

DIdn't know you knew all 3.82 million of them personally. Maybe you should alert the TV network decision makers so they don't lose money.
Haha, “Moran” is a common VN meme, similar to “pre-madonna” and “pocket presents.”

I’m grumpy about the start time and the clear preference the networks are showing for the LA market and thus engaged in a bit of hyperbole and over-generalization.

I will say this: There are around 12.8 million people in the LA metro. There are around 7.3 million in the state of TN. If 2 of 10 Angelinos is a UCLA fan, that would mean about 35% of Tennesseans would need to be a UT fan for the fanbases/presumed viewership to be about equal. A 15% gap in engagement the two demographics doesn’t seem at all outlandish to me. Add in the fact that there’s no reason the good people of California can’t watch basketball at, say, 3:30 or 4:30 as well as they can at 6:40, and it just seems a little weak to me. Why not Houston and Gonzaga as the late game? Zags are Pacific and U of H is Central at least.

It might be that the local bump in viewers is significant between 7pm and 10pm EDT. The numbers gained on the west coast/LA at 7pm versus 4pm are probably a million or two while in the state of TN the drop off from 7pm to 10pm might not even be 100,000.

fellas, be glad you aren’t Clemson fans today (for about a thousand reasons) -they are bitching about some very different issues on their board tigernet right now …..🤣

And let’s turn this into a positive - if you are mad about the tip- bottle up that anger and take it with you to Lexington and let it out in a primal rage everytime Los Angeles has the ball. Stay mad the whole game and be loud!!!

These are teenagers. This game could be 1am and it would be fine for them.

As far as those die-hard Bruins fans, did they die out after the 1970s?

You clearly have never been in a classroom full of high school seniors at 2PM on a Friday. There are mausoleums that are more lively.
Of course there are - they’re in school. You think a kid in a classroom at 2:00 is going to have the same energy level as a kid playing basketball in front of millions of people on a national stage at 9pm?
