Why should they, they gonna get a lot bigger buyout when they all fired at years end anyhow. Why not ride it out and get it when let go!!

We have the money to pay severance. We have the money to go pay a new coach and staff at the same time we pay severance. But we want our current staff to take a pay cut just before they could potentially be let go? No way.

Seriously !!??? They aren’t even coming close to “earning “ what they are being paid right now ! Our team stinks !!! The least they could do is help out the university save money since they sure as crap aren’t on track to generate any w this sorry season !!

I don't blame them 1 bit. I wouldn't agree to a paycut either.

Why would they help out the university that will be firing them within a year or 2?

Don't blame the coaches who refuse the pay cuts, blame the assholes that wrote their contracts.

The more I think about the Football staff who refused to help the University during these times, the more Pi##ed off I become of this Football program. Boycott Pruitt's pressers!

WTF would anyone employed by the university "help" the university?

Yep, I don't see Malzahn offering to give back any of his crazy salary...and that has to be one of the most insane, 1-sided contracts ever written.

AU fans blame Leath, the (then) university prez, as they should

Not all of them are making 7 figure salaries. For example, Joe Osovet is making 225,000 this year. Pretty good in my opinion but it is a high pressure job.
Tight ends coach at this university has got to be the easiest job in the whole world man. You’ve got to be joking.

Need to adios Will Friend and Chris Weinke, there units have grossly under performed. For all the 4-5 stars on the offensive line their production is zero. The development of the QB's is dismal

100% Serious.

Last I looked UT had an endowment of a little over a billion dollars, spends money like drunk sailors on new buildings and the athletic department has been mismanaged for the last 15-20 years so WTH would they "help" the university?
That does not go to the Athletic Department. Ask the ones who did!! When "your employer" ask for help, you step up for the sake of the entire team. If you don't, hit the road, especially when you are doing a sub-par job.

Are any of you who are running these guys down taking a pay reduction at your job willingly? These guys have bills to pay just like you.

Edit: I'm not a fan of their coaching btw.
Bless their hearts! They might have to do without cable and burner phones for a few months!

The endowment has nothing to do with athletics. The AD has its own budget. I am also guessing there are bylaws in place that restrict expenses being paid out of an endowment.

There are a few reasons why a coach/employee might agree to take a temporary paycut. First, it shows you are a team player, unified in the effort to make it work, and would consider not letting lower level employees get laid off. Two, the coaches are on contracts, and when this is made public, it very well could effect future job status. If your performance is mediocre, then other factors are considered when offering deals. Kind of a good will type thing. I wouldn't call the personal publicity as "positive," so there is more to it than just not receiving 10% of your pay.

Your argument is better suited for coaches like Osovet, Artis, etc. Jim Chaney has made plenty of money, and there are others who probably could have sacrificed a bit.

Nah, you tell me why they should since you have a problem with the ones that didn't.
Didn't the "Boss' set an example and take a pay cut? State employees took a pay cut, but some of these Football contract coaches refused, while in other sports they did. I think Fulmer now knows a little better what type of Football staff he has.

Everyone needs to understand that the days of "Johnny comes marching home" are over. For the vast majority of coaches they are mercenaries with no ties to a university other than a contract good for a couple of years. Look at Brumbaugh, guy moves his family to Knoxville and gets fired mid season after 8 months on the job. Was he shown loyalty by the university? I don't feel anymore sorrow for him than I do outrage at the coaches refusing to take a pay cut.

Maybe one day college athletics will wake the **** up and start writing performance based contracts instead of guaranteed ones.

I know the endowment has nothing to do with athletics but the guy I responded to was saying they should help the university out. The university doesn't need help other than better management.

I don't fault the guys who agreed to a pay cut, it's an individual decision. But I do not fault the ones that refused.
