8 SEC Players in the Class of 2014 Who Outperformed Their Recruiting Rankings

Not sure how Payne, Pearson, Henderson, Sawyers, Helm, Hurd, and Wharton were CBJ's fault. You can certainly question Jones on Bates and Blair. Scott wanted more playing time so you can't really blame him but to suggest that players who make mistakes is always the coach's fault is silly especially Sawyers and Pearson. What was he supposed to do in those situations, just let it slide?

Now quickly name one of those players that has excelled at their next stop! :gone:

There has to be accountability from the staff for each class. When 11 four star players in one class don't pan out, then that staff has under-performed its duties in measuring ability and character, IMO.

Except Moseley outperformed Payne in the same class. 3 star catch cancels that out. Coleman Thomas cancels out Blair. Wolf cancels out Helm. Several other examples. Can't subtract without addition.

You can look at Alabama, USC, Clemson etc and they all have the same attrition rates for the same reasons. You hit on some you miss on some. A coach can't hold their hand 24/7. You talk to them about behavior outside of football, counsel them about character so on and so on and you still have some who are going to mess up or get pissed about playing time or mad at the coach because he didn't do what he promised and they leave.

Sign 30 players and half of them leave.

Then you have a few injuries and there's no depth to compensate for loss - and South Carolina and Vandy happen.

Then you have another 30 plus signing class and we're young again. Rinse and repeat.

Wow, you think Barnett would have been a top 10 draft pick straight out of high school?!!! :pilot:

Barnett has a mean streak in him that you don't get from coaching. You can't give Butch credit for that. That's why I think Trey Smith will be special he is the same way.

Those considered to be great will get major offers regardless of their commitment status. If an early commitment caused other schools to stop recruiting then decommitments wouldn't be an issue but that is not reality.

Dobbs and his family made it very clear he was not going to a school unless it had a top engineering program. That is why he had offers from schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Penn, Duke, Wake Forest, and Boston College

It's apparent that you aren't very familiar with the recruitment of Josh Dobbs, so we can just agree to disagree.

2016 was a waste. Butch will NEVER have that much talent again.

OMG! Does every thread have to turn into a bash CBJ. We get it, a lot of you guys hate Butch.
Barnett was recruited by Butch, developed by this coaching staff and will get drafted in the first round and I appreciate his work etheic and what he did for our football team.

Yes, there is nothing else to discuss.

I think Butch has something left in the tank.

He's got this year and next unless things go real bad with 121.

Cept you're listing Butch's first full class. Citing it as the rule and not the exception is disingenuous. I really think that chasing the 4 stars that don't fit like Payne,Hendrix, Helm, Scott and Blair was part of Butch's learning curve. Another reason why when I hear the incessant complaining about another 3 star, I turn a mostly deaf ear. Butch values a Kelly 3 star over a Scott 4...he learned. :). There are some young players next season but we have a nice core who have waited their turn...successful programs do that. Kamara leaving Bama never hurt them...even tho Henry was last running back standing out of his class of 4 and 5 star ball carriers. We have a veteran OL spliced with some phenomenal new blood. Getting it all to work together will be the bellwether.
