Glad to see Barnett in this piece. He deserves all the credit, he worked his tail off and kept his nose clean.

8 SEC players from 2014 class who outperformed their recruiting rankings

For those that don't want to read it:
"Derek Barnett, Tennessee: As the top-ranked recruit of the 2014 class, Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett certainly lived up to that billing, parlaying his successful career in College Station to possibly become the top pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

Barnett, a 4-star but still ranked just No. 208 in that class, also is projected to be taken in the first-round. Considering what he accomplished, that shouldn’t be a surprise. Barnett, the 6-3, 265-pound defensive end, broke Reggie White’s school record for sacks in the Volunteers’ victory over Nebraska in the Music City Bowl.

It was the 33rd career sack for Barnett, whose totals over his three seasons in Knoxville were 10, 10 and 13, which led the SEC in 2016. Barnett also ended the season with 19 tackles for loss, sharing the conference lead with Alabama’s Ryan Anderson, according to cfbstats.com."

This will be Butch's 2nd top ten pick, right?
But hey, I mean scouting a guy, getting him to play for you, starting him early, developing him, breaking all time records, and getting drafted first round in the NFL has nothing to do with coaching, right? :pilot:

We are going to miss you more than the left misses Obama.

Good grief, can the freaking Garrett love stop already? Barnett put up far better stats against far better opponents than Garrett did against some rinky dink FCS schools.

Aggravates the life out of me.

I totally agree with you. The piece is on "Over achievers" Myles Garrett was supposed to do what he did.

I know Dobbs and Sutton weren't from that class but if anyone has outperformed their rankings it was those two; both were 3* with not great offer lists.

2016 was a waste. Butch will NEVER have that much talent again.

It's groundhog day every year in Knoxville. Butch was gonna develop good upper classmen and yet, eleven 4* or 5* players from 2014 class have under performed or left for one reason or another.

Here we go:

D'andre Payne - transferred
Von Pearson - decent receiver, but accused of rape
Joe Henderson - grades
Michael Sawyers - kicked off team
Vic Wharton - transferred
Dantavious Blair - transferred
Dewayne Hendrix - transferred
Derrell Scott - transferred
Dillon Bates - non factor
Jalen Hurd - quit team
Daniel Helm - transferred

Am I forgetting anyone?

Make it stop!

Go Vols!!

I love this article as it comes at a time with so many complaining about recent commits.

100% agree. It's why those that spew the 2017 team as having a similar or even better record than the 2016 team are delusional. Butch has shot his wad already and we saw the results.

There is a good possibility that our next head coach could be Scott. In an interim capacity anyway. He may end up being a heckuva head coach. Time will tell.

I think his offer list was more indicative of his early commitment to ASU than anything.

Those considered to be great will get major offers regardless of their commitment status. If an early commitment caused other schools to stop recruiting then decommitments wouldn't be an issue but that is not reality.

Not sure how Payne, Pearson, Henderson, Sawyers, Helm, Hurd, and Wharton were CBJ's fault. You can certainly question Jones on Bates and Blair. Scott wanted more playing time so you can't really blame him but to suggest that players who make mistakes is always the coach's fault is silly especially Sawyers and Pearson. What was he supposed to do in those situations, just let it slide?
