That is what they offered Gundy. 7 million per year would get us a top notch coach. Not very many top notch coaches would turn down 7 million. We heard specifics in the Gundy search and then, when he said no, have you heard anything like that again? 7 million is what Nick Saban made last year. Harbaugh made 9 million and Urban made 6 million.

After the Gundy search, no one has heard that number again...Why not? Pay up UTAD!! We have supported you through a decade of mediocrity and misery. We are one of the most storied programs in college football history and it is about time we acted like it. 7 million a year will hit a home run. Personally I think you made that specific offer to Gundy because you knew he'd never leave his Alma matter. Pay up like a top 10 university that cares about its football program should.

I may be insane but with the job the next coach has in 2018, I only want Kiffin. And that’s even if we are throwing out 7-8 Million for a coach.

Unless we could realistically land Petersen, I’d rather go all in with Kiffin and be in Atlanta by 2019

HC Lane Kiffin 3 million. OC Tee 2 million, and DC Steele 2 million. Thats 7 million for Head Coach and Coordinators and would blow Gundy staff out of the water.

They went after Gundy with that ridiculous offer because they knew he would turn it down. The admin thought that would cool the fan base. They knew he wouldn't accept the damn job.

You people still don’t get it. This program sucks, it’s a mess. To us average joes we can’t fathom why someone wouldn’t come here for a few million raise. To the guys already making 3-4 million, an extra 2-3 doesn’t make or break them. You could offer 20 mil a year to some coaches right now, and they still wouldn’t take it in the shape this program is in.

When your already rich, there’s a lot to be said for job stability, job quality, and condition of the program. In case you guys haven’t noticed, UT has none of these right now. We are going to end up with a 3 million quality coach, whether we offer 8 mil or not.

Klamor for Kiffin (with Tee and Steele). Maybe they will eventually get the message.

Forget the Kiffin nonsense. It’s not happening. Currie is trying to save his job right now, which means a safe hire. He knows good and well there are still people that would riot if Kiffin was brought back. He’s not taking that chance. A Kiffin thread is about as useless as all the Gruden threads were.

I tend to agree with some of this. They probably $hit bricks after he thought about it for more than an hour...afraid he would accept.

Haslam has said Currie isn't going anywhere......

So saying Currie is trying to save his job is not necessarily true. I think its closer he is try to save his life as I think his job security is much higher than his personal security.

They should hire Gundy's OC, he's the one putting up those number at Okie St.
His salary is like $500k Mike Yurcich

I wouldn't give Kiffin 7 mill.. or 6, or 5.. He's not that good of a coach.

Petersen and Leach were my first 2 choices and those opportunities were blown.

The official story will be that we couldn't get an A list coach for 7 mil.. so after much deliberation we went with 'someone with definite potential' for 4.5.

And come next April, after very little deliberation, I will pass on the opportunity to renew my season tix for the 34th time. Life is too short and fall Saturdays filled with anguish isn't in my plans.

I wasn't saying we should. I have been very specific on the contract setup I would give Lane:

Contract is 6 years,10 million dollar buyout (if he walks) that drops to 7.5 million after year 4, not eligible for any extension until after year 4, make his base salary around 3 million and put crazy incentives in there like the following:

$500K for SEC East Title
$1M for SEC Title
$750K for Playoff Appearance
$1M for Natty Appearance
$2M for Natty

$100K for top 15 Recruiting class
$250K for top 10 Recruiting class
$350K for top 5 Recruiting class

At minimum if we make playoff, that means we pay between 5.3-5.6 million to do so in one year. That, my friends, is a heck of a deal.

Okay..I could get behind that because that's a very good incentive to make sure he bust his ass.. but I'd make the buyout 15mil.. he can't have everything given to him. And he needs to know he's not a knight in shinning armor.. he needs to be humble in his first presser or 2

That's like telling flood water to appear dry until it reaches the second floor.

How is Doeren a "safe hire"? He has a 3% approval rating on this Volnation poll.

Why the hell would Steele leave Auburn wherein he's a year or so away from qualifying for Alabama state pension (this was a big reason why he left LSU for Auburn in the first place) to come to a landmine in Tennessee for the same position even with a bump in pay? He's going to get a raise at Auburn anyway and his defense is rolling.

You are so very wrong. We landed the ESPN #1 recruit in America last year and have had Cade Mays locked up for years. Nice O-Line for years. Our team has LOTS of talented players that just need developing and even more than that coaching. It is not a dumpster fire with the talent we have. The problem is the potential candidates don't want to deal with the admin problems especially an AD who could be fired within a year. Too much uncertainty from the admin. Best solution would be to fire Currie and install Fulmer. Unfortunately, Currie is a #'s guy and he pulled in a fortune last year. $$$ schools salivate over and that is what Currie hangs his hat on.

"Nice O-line for years". You have been watching a different team than I. Our O-line has sucked for years.

Gundy got his raise. Currie showed UT fans that UT football was damaged goods and he could only get a cheap coach. Both sides walked away winners (in their eyes)
