670 the score just said Lovie is staying in Chicago

Hey Meeks54, something else about that mediocrity poster, he won a national championship, when was the last time yall did that, i believe it was like the 50s and lets face it that doesnt even count because the system back then was even worse than the BCS today

Because I don't care. My apologies for destroying your thread.

Radio says we're doomed. That help?

I was just passing along information. Mully and Hanley show covers Bears non stop. I thought someone would like to know what chicago radio had to say on the subject.

Really? A super-bowl calibre coach who has Tennessee roots and was a lights out recruiter in his time here?

they're young--and not good recruiters when they get older. Lovie was at UT a long time ago. A Bears fans just trashed him on another board--said he was the NFL version of Fulmer, no personality, no accountability, likes his own guys, ran off the DC for his Super Bowl team (and the defense has been crap ever since). One fan's assessment, but sobering nonetheless.

And they do now, thanks to your effort. I apologize again for ruining your work.

Papa, we cool man. I am from Dyerburg tn and was born and raised here. My faimly is from UK and went there. Thats why I am die hard UK. I am on here because I have lived here my entire life and am curious as to what is going on.

It was fun jabbin. Don't take what I said about Lovie personal. I am just a bears fan and want a new coach nothing more.

While reading the ESPN article outlining the decision of David Cutcliffe to stay at Duke, I noticed the two names specifically mentioned that UT is interested in was Al Golden (Temple) and Derek Dooley (Louisiana Tech). I did not know much about either of these gentlemen, so I did some research.

Derek Dooley
Son of Vince Dooley (famous Georgia HC), and current coach of Louisiana Tech. After his first year there, the President was so impressed with his diligent work ethic and tireless commitment, he named Dooley the school's Athletic Director. Dooley is serving both roles at that school, and he is slightly over 40 years old. His teams have progressively improved over the last 3 years:

Category 2006 2007 2008
Record 3-10 5-7 8-5
WAC 1-7 4-4 5-3
Turnover Margin -8 +1 +9
Scoring Offense 18.6 20.7 24.6
Scoring Defense 41.7 30.7 23.7
Rushing Offense 130.1 155.2 187.1
Rushing Defense 225.4 137.1 103.8
Special Teams TDs 0 1 5
Blocked Kicks 1 5 5

Take time to read up on this man because he sounds like a very intriguing candidate to me.

Al Golden
Coach Golden is the head coach at Temple. His teams have shown progressive improvement over the 4 years he has been there. Here are the records:
2006: 1-11
2007: 4-8
2008: 5-7
2009: 9-4
He also plays many freshmen. For a few years, he has actually played more freshmen than any other school in the country.

Al Golden is a heck of a coach. It won't impress the name whores but he has done a great job at Temple. I don't know if he is ready for a program like UT but I think we could do much worse. Lovie can coach as well and would be absolutely great developing players character and play but his contract situation is a bit sticky in Chicago.

My fam and I come into these threads to see and have good healthy dialog, not a lot of bashing and name calling from some of the posters. This thread started out talking football and has ended up basketball and berating Lovie Smith. Thank you room moderator for imposing your rules.

Now back to FB. ESPN reports Cutcliffe staying at Duke. They do mention a couple of other potential candidates. One poster in here gave the stats on them. They look promising, however, at this point in our program, will the BOT give MH the leeway to do what he has to do to get a coach in here in time to save this program's recruting? This week is almost gone--countdown into another week. And more to the point, how is PF able to help make a decision on the next coach. Did he help on the last one?

I don't know how well he can recruit but I'd assume he'd do alright in convincing kids he can get them to the NFL level. But to your second point... Bears fans are crazy. They want to trade for Donavon McNabb every year just because he is from CHI. Doesn't matter how many times he  and sucks in a big game.

Lovie is a bad choice. You should be glad you are not getting him. As far as kicking in THE greatest college basketball program of all times teeth, your point? Spygate?

You own us in football. We have more wins aganst UT than any school has on any team in the nation in basketball. But, the streak will probably end soon. It would have this year had Papa known how to call a proper play at the end of a game.

If if's and but's were candy and nuts wed all have a merry christmas!!!! weve whooped you all 25 years in a row and theres not gona be any snapping of that streak in this millinium... how bout you get off our volnation site and go give your useless opinion to a kentucky site...

this isn't personal. We'll be cool until you again say something that I just don't agree with. It's just the way of the message board. Don't take it personally.

BTW, was born in Parkview Hospital. Thank goodness my parents had the sense to leave when I was 3 months old.

I'm healthy.

I found this on the sentinel site and found it really interesting.

"If we can't get Lovie, keep Kippy then....

Now, get Chavis to come back as D.C. (no, seriously, look at how great his defense was this year at LSU), keep Chaney as O.C. (the REAL reason for Crompton's turnaround, PLUS he's an excellent O-line coach), keep Willie Mack, MAYBE try to keep Thompson...

let Reaves & Cregg follow Kiffie like they're gonna do anyway...

FINALLY, bring in Jay Graham to coach RBs, and Al Wilson to coach D-line or if Thompson leaves, then Big Al can obviously coach LBs."

I can't help but wonder if Al would even consider his alma mater. He would be good for the defense that's for sure especially the way he fired up the team.:dance2:

This would at least put us on the road to recovery.

The gentleman who has a field named after him at UT said Lovie won't happen. He said it directly to my face and was matter of fact about it.

We can put that one to bed officially. Flame me if you wish, not the first and won't be the last!

Since you are so intune--what do we get with Lovie. What's your specific problem with him?

He doesn't coach his players. He never goes to them after a play to talk with them. He stays stoic and to himself during a game. I don't believe he will coach the kids in college. This method might work in the NFL where they are pros but even the rookies don't get much help.

He is the most stubborn man and really went to a super bowl thanks to Ron Rivera who he fired.

Lovie took over DC position last year and flushed it down a toilet. He was near last in the Aikman ratings.

The only reason he wasn't fired is the McCasky family is cheap and the lockout

there are waayyyyy too many unofficial sources out there to trust just one. I mean look what happened with Cut...that was supposed to be a done deal.

crap. I was really counting on this one. Looks like maybe we are down to Dooley. Who the heck knows with Smoke and Mirrors Hamilton though.
