Give Dooley a chance!

1) Dooley coached for 7 consecutive years under Saban at LSU and then the Dolphins. This means he's loyal and he's had experience under a championship coach.

2) While at LSU, Dooley served as Saban's recruiting coordinator and TE coach from 2000-2003 and special teams coordinator and running backs coach from 2003-2004. LSU won the BCS national championship in 2003 with Dooley's recruits. Before Dooley got to LSU, they hadn't been to a Bowl game in 3 years. The 4 years Dooley served as LSUs recruiting coordinator, they went to 4 Bowl games and won 3 of them, one of them being the National Championship. This means Dooley can coach multiple positions and he knows how to recruit in the SEC.

3) Dooley was the TE coach under Saban for the Dolphins. This means Dooley has NFL experience. When Saban chose to go back to college football, Dooley stepped out on his own to HC at La Tech. This means Dooley's not afraid to roll up his sleeves and go to work.

4) The year before Dooley got to La Tech, they'd only won 3 games. In Dooley's first year they won 5 and the next year they won 8 and the Independence Bowl. This was the first time La Tech had been to a Bowl game since 1999 and the first time La Tech had won a Bowl game since entering the WAC and since 1977. At the end of this year, Dooley was also given the Athletic Coordinator position.
As AC, Dooley upgraded Joe Aillet stadium by adding a new playing turf, box seats, and videoboard, and completely overhauling the athletic department from the ground up. However, serving this dual role Dooley was not able to focus solely on football, and the following year La Tech won 5 games. This means when given the right opportunity, Dooley can not only coach, he can win; and he can win at a program with minimal football facilities, minimal fan base, limited finances and low recruiting potential.

5) Dooley's father is Vince Dooley, the long time coach at Georgia who led them to a national championship with Herschel Walker. This means Dooley knows football; it's in his blood and he knows the sacrifices it takes to create a championship team.

6) Dooley is young (41) and has many years to prove himself at a high level. He's energetic, motivated and creative, on and off the field. He's coached at the highest and lowest football levels. Dooley's also intelligent and educated, earning a degree in law before committing to football. This means he's diplomatic with his relationships and with his speech. He knows what to say and how and when to say it. With 14 years of coaching under his belt:

Give Dooley a chance!!

Yes Sir! I'm with ya, not happy about being grafted to the uga tree of coaching,.....but isn't the entire SEC like that?

There's one reason to back him that trumps them all:

1. Derek Dooley, whether he was our choice or not, is our head coach now. For the next few years at least, the fate of the UT football program is in his hands. And since we all want the Vols to win, that means we want Dooley to succeed.

What's more...

The program is a mess right now. He's going to be our third coach in 13 months. He's going to have to fight to salvage a decent 2010 recruiting class, at a time when we're down 20 scholarship players to begin with and '09 was basically a washout because of last year's change.

As you said, Dooley knows what it takes to have a championship team. He knows that UT expects one sooner rather than later. He must know how divided the fans are, and he had to know he wouldn't be a popular hire with a lot of people. And he's leaving a job where he was well liked and was his own boss.

He still had the guts to come to Knoxville. That's reason enough for me to back him.

7. You have to wait until Oregon/Florida to jump on the inevitable love or hate bandwagon (depending on outcome).

(in other words, mark me down for "wait and see". As a fan, I'll be watching and hoping for the best)

Exactly, with his move to La Tech, he's not afraid to take chances and get in the muck of it all.

Got to remember this....

We wanted Muschamp for what reasons....excellent DC, asst. under Brown at Texas and Saban at LSU but no HC record.

What if Dooley wasn't a HC but still under Saban which would mean 10 years, the head recruiter, 2 years in the NFL, RB coach, TE coach and Special Teams coach. If we were getting someone based on those qualifications we be jumping up & down just like Muschamp. But because he took a HC job and doesn't have some eye popping win-lose record then it matters.

It's highly unlikely he wins either of those games. You have to be realistic.

DD stood up on the podium and told us all we'd be singing Rocky Top all night long after beating the Gators this year. He said it with his eyes, Trent. He said it with his eyes.

Three things he has going for him.
1-No visor.
2-No tan
3-Respect.
He's alright in my book!

How about...
we hired Hamilton's first choice.

Is there an option to giving him a chance? Isn't that what having the job is?
