#6 Hawks vs. #3 Pacers

Jesus. Another blowout win for the Hawks. The Pacers better figure out how to start playing defense again like they did for most of the season or they won't see the second round. They're just too offensively challenged to need 100+ points to win games.

SO who is ATL's biggest rival?

The Hawks are too boring and nondescript to have any real rivals. If you put a gun to my head I'd say Orlando.

There is some legitimately bad blood between the Hawks and Celtics, but it's been so one-sided in the playoffs that I don't know that that can count.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that the Hawks are a boring team. I also feel the same way with Falcons.

Where did the bad blood come from with the Celts.

Eh...the Falcons inter-division rivals are decent (Saints). The Hawks' aren't.

But they aren't a boring team. The NBA just isn't all that kind to a third tier squad.

I should have said that this is a boring franchise instead. Nobody outside of Atlanta is at all interested in the Hawks. There's been nothing interesting about the Hawks on any kid of a national level since Dominique left. It's telling that the first thing that made the national media talk about the Hawks in years was the question of whether Josh Smith would leave, presumably to go somewhere more interesting.

(I say this as a fan of the team.)

I wouldn't mind if the Pacers could somehow figure to get at least one rebound. Atlanta is KILLING them on the offensive glass.

Can I also say that you all have gotten progressively worse logos over the years?

The NBA is ruled by the big market teams, but even the Bulls were boring pre-Rose. It really takes a real superstar to make a non-big market team interesting. And those come around maybe once a draft.

The Hawks are probably the most accessible team in Atlanta as Philips arena is walkable from the Peachtree Center stop. But I have a hard time finding people who even care about the NBA around here. And that is probably true of 2/3rds of the cities with NBA teams.

edit: The Falcons are accessible. NFL games are damn expensive though.

Agree on all counts.

It isn't just an Atlanta problem. There isn't a single good pro sports town in all of the South. Nashville might be the closest thing to an exception to that rule.

How is Miami? I know the Heat are pretty big there, but aren't they known as a generally late arriving crowd?

I hope Pro sports stays viable in the south. I know it took a long time for the South to get proper sports teams. I would hate to see them leave.
