6-4 Let that sink in

Now children, calm down. OP and some on here are that overly negative 5-10% of the UT fanbase that Danny White was referencing that are failing as fans.. unhappy negative Nancys.

Huepel was a solid hire. He will either be the guy that brings us back, or he will be a bridge to the next chapter/guy. Either way based on his record and history, he was a better hire than Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt. White is much more qualified than any AD we've had in the last decade.

Considering that Scott Frost was there from Dec 2015 to Dec 2017 how can anyone say that Heupel won with Frost's players. At the most Frost signed 2 classes.
OK.. fair enough. But the record still trended down as CJH's own players made up more and more of the roster. Frost has proved in Nebraska that he wasn't the genius he made out to be at UCF... or maybe that conference is a little harder to recruit/win in than the AAC.

But, Heupel's recruiting classes were rated higher than Frost's. Why it trended down is open for discussion because it wasn't due to lower-rated recruiting classes. Have to look deeper into the circumstances.

I had to login to reply to this post.

Sure every team had to deal with Covid in regards to safety precautions, testing several times a week, wearing masks, etc. but that is the extent of everything being equal. Different states had different quarantine restrictions, teams had players opt out, teams had players be quarantined during fall camp or the season, some lost coaches, and I could go on an on.

No way Alabama (which had no important players miss a game) experience the same as Vandy, Missouri, TN, or Florida. For our Vols, Bailey missed time during fall camp meaning JG was our QB at the start of the year, there were reports that we had many receivers miss significant parts of fall camp, Wayna was quarantined twice, we had assistant coaches miss the A&M game, etc. We may have been 6-6 if we had played our normal schedule. Ohio State had games canceled, played one game with dozens of players out, Clemson had to play ND without Trevor Lawerence. But oh, it had to be a miracle that Alabama was not really affected.

In Basketball, some teams have opted out of the season and games are being canceled left and right. Don’t you think our Vols would be a little better off if we had been able to play those 5 games in the out of conference schedule? All the blue blood programs are struggling because they are always young and they missed significant practice time and games during the pre-conference schedule. Did Alabama football have that problem - No because they were a veteran team and had lots of depth.

So no, every team was affected differently because of Covid.

I suppose I’m touched and honored you felt it necessary to “log in” to reply, though in all reality, it’s a matter of entering a username and password, so if that was a struggle for you, I applaud the effort.

My response was to the blanket statement that if a game or season went bad for a team, it was ‘due to COVID’. That has become a go-to to explain bad results this season. Given that most metrics in football involve comparisons between teams, if the entire sample set had the same basic set of obstacles to overcome, then the use of the universal challenge on a case specific result is suspect at best.

You will get no argument from me that the Gumps get every advantage and every favorable interpretation of a rule or guideline possible. If it can be bent, broken, or interpreted to advantage them, the. The SEC or NCAA, or local authorities, whatever will do just that.

But to reflexively blame COVID is invalid as a rule to explain bad relative performance.

Have a great evening.

Y'all some cryin' @ss fans. Look, we're in a dumpster fire here after Pruitt. NCAA breathing down our necks, not to mention we stink on the field. No player progress has been shown so we bring in someone new. Let's start the hate on the guy who would take a chance on us. Did you really think top coaches at other institutions were banging down the door brainiacs??? OMG you people are the reason others make fun of TN fans.

We have a somewhat proven head coach, a proven athlete, a reputable AD going into what could be a program-changing season with the NCAA....and you sit here and fuss. Unreal. Look, I don't know how well the guy will do, but I do know he's here. I do know recruits like fast paced offenses. Let's roll with guy....the previous tard sure didn't do us any favors.

I swear to goodness I don’t get the hate some of y’all have for your fellow fans. As I’ve said in other threads, if you are still here after the last 15 years, pumper and nega alike, you are clearly a UT fan. No bandwagon fans or casual fans are left.

Let’s stop attacking each other. ‘Kay?

There won't be another job search within 2 years. That's an asinine take. They have given the guy an extremely secure contract. We better hope he makes it a relatively successful 4-5 years, or the buyout will be outrageous. In fact, I would argue that the contract structure means that they fully intend to give him 4 years at the least.
No lol
