5 Wide, No Huddle offense

Some improved line play on both sides of the ball and defensive back improvement and some good runs mixed in with what could be a beast of a passing attack.Should be one of the best groups of wide receivers at wr university.

Not that we are here yet, but the potential is in place to mimic the st Louis rams in the Super Bowl run. The quick strike passing game with a complete running back (m Faulk). We have most of the pieces, but some pieces must step up (o line). This type of offense allows the defense to gamble and creat turnovers. That year, the rams were tops in takeaways.

Peyton disagrees about running the ball to win in the SEC...

Don't believe this is true--quote, reference???

All I have to do is watch '96 OSU game, '96 Jay Graham run against Bama to win game, '97 Jamal Lewis running
attack....

Check out that Peyton Memphis game we lost--where was the running game in that one???

Whether any folks on here like it or not--ELITE SEC
teams run the ball and play suffocating D to win championships--or didn't you watch this year's 2 best teams in the SEC demonstrate that?

You win the SEC with a dominating D-Line. You can throw the ball around all you want to but that only gets you so far. You gotta D it up at some point. 5 wide no huddle would just expose our depth issues on D even further because they will be on the field more, as one would expect the offense time of possession to likely diminish.

This +1000....

If marlin lane is not in the no huddle... Rajion Neal definitely will be... People shouldn't underestimate his potential, he could emerge as #1 RB and guy catches as well as most WR

I wouldn't say it's the ONLY way. However....we do have the personnel to do it. And it would be exciting to see what Tennessee does with a no-huddle. Only thing that comes to my mind, is aren't no huddles mostly ran by DT quarterbacks? I don't know if I want Bray scrambling. I could be wrong on that.

But, with Rogers, Hunter, Patterson, Bowles, Howard/Croom, I would take that.

Sam Bradford wasn't mobile in 2008.

We needed this last year. With guys that have experience with this system, there's really no excuse not to run it. It's not the formula for winning an SECCG, but it sure as hell can get us to Atlanta if executed.

Manning runs a no huddle offense and so does some other NFL quarterbacks. Bray would have to be able to audible in plays depending on the defense and I don't think he can do that. We could easily have a running game with a no huddle and a nonscrabling qb but Bray will have to spend a lot of time in the film room. Something he apparently doesn't do a lot.

Personally I would like to See a 3 receiver's with Darrick being in the slot. I would like to see a fast pace offense keeping fresh legs in at WR and wearing out Defenses. It not only opens up the pass but opens up the run.
This.

3 wide outs that will be impossible to cover in man to man. Will have to run some sort of zone coverage which will open up the slot big time.
Think Steve Spurrier opening up the run with the pass rather than opening up the pass with the run.

No. You don't win in the SEC without a running game....

Don't tell Arkansas that.. Lost their best RB and still finished in the top10.. We had our best RB and couldn't get 3yrds a carry... I'd rather see a no huddle, spread than try and run it every play and go no where. Especially when we have a QB and WRs to throw down the field all day..

The thing with the 5 wide is everything has to be quick. U only have 5 blocking so if the defense brings 5, you better hope everyone holds there blocks.

What I would like to see is the combo of Rogers, Hunter, Patterson and Riviera alot. Enough running to keep the defense honest, and alot play action to give our big time wr's space. I really believe a decent running game would do wonders for this offense. We have the personnel to be very explosive, but I don't think 5 wide is the way to do it. 60/40 pass/run imo.

Oh, sure guys...let's just ignore the strengths that we have (ridiculous WRs and a good QB) and line up and play old Woody Hayes three-yards-and-a-cloud of dust smashmouth football...it'll work great until we run up against a team whose D-Line just whips the utter dog**** out of us, which judging by the past year, and no signings, will be oh...everyone.

We will throw the ball all over the field. There is no hiding that. You can't cover everybody. Until Hunter went out and I know we hadn't played anybody yet, teams couldn't cover Rogers and Hunter at the same time. That will be the case this year as well. We all know that Rogers and Hunter on the field at the same time somebody will be open every play. Now add in the mix of the stud WR's we just signed and covering 3 WR's and a TE will be impossible. With all that said, historically in the SEC we will still have to run the ball. We at least need a 120 yard average to be as effective as we want to be passing the ball. We don't have to lead the SEC or nation in rushing but we will have to run it. You can't hide from that. At the end of the day, a rested wide open defense will win championships. Scoring in 2 minutes or less will not help us defensively.

No, not only dual threat QB's. Bray "scrambling" would be like watching a squid falling out of a tree. We could be very effective if this offense was implemented.

Da'Rick didn't make much of an impact in his freshmen season due to the "talent" we already had like Moore, Stocker, etc. and we also played Matt Simms a lot of his freshmen year. And I don't think you are watching the same Tyler Bray I am when it comes to the kid's toughness. He may be a little on the slim side, but he can take a hit from any DE in the SEC and get right back up. His injury last year was a fluke and was just one of those odd injuries that can happen, just like Hunter..had nothing to do with any pressure coming from a defense. :loco:

You know what? You're right. The kid's definitely tough. :salute:

With the WR pull we got this year, I have to think the staff communicated that we plan to have a very pass-oriented offense. That doesn't mean we won't try to run, but I expect a running attack opened up by the pass.

And to go no-huddle, Bray will have to get a lot smarter under center. As talented as he is, he hasn't shown the football IQ to recognize defenses and audible out of a play.

will be the only way we get 8 wins and expose some of these SEC defenses.

No. That isn't the only way... not even the best way.

IMO, UT will be a 3 wide team most of the year. They'll use a TE/HB position and bring DR/CP or one of the other bigger WR's in to block LB's on run plays.

UT does not need 5 wide if CP is as good as advertised. They force nickel coverage with 3 wide.

As far as the no-huddle goes:

UT Tried to implement a no-huddle type offense a few weeks before the season started this year, but completely scrubbed it. They are going to try it again this year and it will look much like the no-huddle that Texas A&M uses.

You have to run the ball to win in the SEC. That's all there is to it.

Agree about the 3 wide over 5 wide. Much more excited about 3 wide, 1 TE, ace backfield. Or 2 wide with 2 TE and ace. I just don't see all of our incoming receivers being ready to produce more than Rivera, Clear, Lane and Neal.
