I'm as frustrated as I've been in years after watching the game. First, Purdue looked like a bad team, maybe slightly better than Vanderbilt. Then Tennessee disappeared and had a horrible 2nd quarter. Almost like they thought the game was won after the first quarter. It should have been 28-7 or worse going into halftime. That gave life to team that was clearly outmatched. To top it all off though, that was the worst officiating I've seen since I remember. In the end, officiating lost the game.

Tim Banks needs to be gone tonight. There is no excuse for how poorly our pass defense is and just looking at the recruiting class it doesn’t look like it’s going to get much better.
Perhaps

But it is pretty obvious the defense lacks difference makers. Taylor is our best defensive prospect and he didn't even play. The deficiencies on that side of the ball have to be addressed.

People just don't want to put blame of the refs, they think it's the cowards way out. But the reality is, it's on them. It's okay to call it like it is. Yes you can say **** like "we allowed a lot of passing yards and Hooker missed some throws". News flash. That's football. Purdue left a lot of plays on the field too. Difference is? Look at the absurd difference in penalties, especially at key moments.

Welcome to Heupel ball!!!! We have a sizeable crowd here at VN that loves seeing the Big Orange offense going up and down the field and losing is okay as long as we're exciting and fun to watch. Personally I derive excitement from winning rather than points scored in losing efforts.

Was it Heupel who went 3 years without recruiting and CBs? Seriously the only corners he landed were Thompson and Burrell. The lack of defensive talent on this roster doesn’t fall on CJH

I think a lot of people felt that way about our offense too, yet that side of the ball was coached up. Throughout injuries, our best TB quitting, etc they continued to perform.

We had a txfr qb an that was an afterthought and a former 2 star receiver carve up the best teams around this year.
That is a fair point but I see more players on offense that will be playing on Sunday. Defense is our biggest problem.

D
Maybe 1 or 2 “ phantom” PI calls, however, our DB’s hold or interfere on almost every pass play. Need better coaching and/ or talent
DBs are very poorly coached. They do hold, grab and still get beat. They look stiff in the hips and have zero awareness. Actually, they look a lot like a Willie Martinez unit.

Banks needs more quality players to work with. Our defense lacks talent big time.
Well damn said! But i like Beasley up there because he's still young but you're right they need to get football players up there with some damn attitude on the field like Banks! He has turned his career in college completely around abd looking like a real NFL talent up there,,,,Bama and Ga recruit guys with attitudes so why in the living hell doesn't UT do the same damn thing? smh

Folks, we have a defense problem. When four players can’t bring down one player and allow him to escape down the sideline. I was always taught do not let the runner go till he is on the ground and you hear the whistle.
Bottom line, with all the problems on the offense tonight, Hooker being off, penalties, on and on…..when the offense scores 45 points you should win the game.

Defense has been and will be what Heupel’s success hinges upon. Either it comes along and we take off or it keeps us from competing for championships. Offense is and always will be there
