I put together a list on how our 5 star recruits have turned out over the past ten years. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to add anything if I missed something.

james banks-kicked off team (drugs)
mondre dickerson-rape charges
brandon jefferies-transfered to nc state
jonathan mapu-left to go on a church mission and came back out of shape
gerald riggs jr.-didn't make it the NFL
robert meachem-won a super bowl with the saints
jesse mahelona-mediocre career in the nfl. killed in a car wreck while driving under the influence
albert toeaina-spits on camera man after a loss to vandy
demetrice morley-kicked off team for missing practices and being late all the time
walter fisher-no clue what happened to this guy
eric berry-great career in college and on his way to big things in the nfl
chris donald-left and went to UTC
ben martin-hurt last year but has stayed out of trouble
kenny o'neal-left the program after he couldnt keep his grades up
brent vinson-involved with a murder investigation and covering up evidence
bryce brown-we all know how this ends
janzen jackson-already been in trouble (hope he keep his act clean under Dooleys direction)
darick rogers-already been in trouble (hope he keep his act clean under Dooleys direction)

Is this really the best you could do with these guys?

Da'Rick hasn't been in trouble BTW. Cleared by the police means that you are cleared of wrongdoing.

It clearly proves that only 5* athletes do not go to the NFL, get in trouble with the law, or die.

This is because they don't have the desire or work ethic to get better and work their way to the top. Most 5 * athletes come out of high school thinking they are Gods gift and they have already locked a starting position down. As opposed to an average 3 * or walk on having to bust their rears just to get noticed. When you think you're to good to improve...it's the beginning of the end.

Never have and never will understand the 3* works harder logic.

And, Im guessing nobody has any science to back it up.

Someone go through the 2,3, and 4*s and tell what percent of them get drafted. Hint: Less than 7% of 3*s.

Yeah, but think of it this way, since we've been screwed over by the law of averages regarding the success of our 5*s, you've got to figure about 60% of our 3*s are in the NFL, because they are the 3*s that work hard, want it, and stare at water

Seems like the teams recruiting highly ranked classes are the ones winning championships.

Very true, people who say recruiting rankings don't matter need to take a hard look at this list. You just don't win in the SEC with classes full of the type of players we are bringing in.

However, the sad thing is that no team has recruited better and gotten less results than UT. There is not one team that outrecruited us over that time period that didn't win at least one conference championship. (with the exception of ND who isn't even in a conference, but they did go to a couple of BCS bowls)

This could not be any more of a fallacious generalization. Not one iota of actual substantive truth.

I will add an equally-reasoned theory:

5* recruits are not successful, because they actually possess too many stars, making it difficult for them to see (as stars are brilliant entities of light).

3* recruits have just the right level of luminosity to succeed on the football field.

If you look in the SEC only a couple of schools have 5 star prospects.. Bama has 2, LSU has 3, and Aubbie has 1. and we are still like a few weeks away from NSD.. LSU is the one school in the country with more than 2(Per Rivials).. To me the System is wack..

The star ranking system is not perfect but to say it doesn't matter is utter stupidity.

it does matter some...but even the different recruiting sites cant agree on stars on several different prospects...i like dooley's plan of looking at stars and at character...say what you like but it takes players who willl be around for the senior year

So Fulmer's "great recruiting of 5* talent" really consisted of landing the overrated malcontents no one else wanted? Get outta here.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Everybody has runs. Fulmer had unbelievable recruiting results in 90's and declined in the 2000's. My Colts have had unbelievable draft luck, but haven't drafted any OL or DL worth much in like 7 years. Crap happens, and they are supposed to be the draft geniuses.

Of the 21 UT players who have been drafted since 2006, 17 were four-stars or better out of high school.

Anyone with any common sense will know the higher the player is rated the better they'll be. There are always exceptions, but on whole you can see the players and schools that are rated the highest will end up finishing higher than the lower rated players/schools.

It's really a no-brainer.

This can't be right...stars don't matter...
