Does anyone have a definitive yet on who the five are?

If not, what are the opinions about who they are/should be?

Is that opinion or the decision? I agree except they need to find a way to get Hancock in there. He seems to have overtaken Shelley.

Umm...Hancock finished the scrimmage season with 4 total TDs which led all WRs. Kid could be a stud. Fulmer says that he will definately be in the mix.

The great thing about this competition is that it has pushed those guys to new heights that they'd have never reached under the Sanders approach. The bad thing is that guys who might be night and day better than last year will be watching from the sideline.

Right now, I think Shelley and Briscoe look like the odd men out with the final slot going to Rogers or Hancock... or some form of 5a and 5b.

Both of those guys need to be on the field somewhere... alot.

I'll second that, but put Hancock/Rogers. I think we will see them rotating throughout the game. So maybe it should be the Top 4, I think we are likely to see quite the mixing at number 5.

i dont think briscoe or rogers are playmakers or bring anything special to the field.

I think you are right about Briscoe in terms of his lack of big play ability. However that doesnt mean he doesnt bring "anything" to the field. He will end up being a great "chain mover" before he leaves UT. You need those kind of players. We dont need him this year because we have Swain to fill that role. I see Briscoe being similar to Swain after this season. I think you are dead wrong about Rodgers. He is a playmaker. He might be the fastest of all the WR's.

I think that if we do not battle injury that the top 4 will no doubt be Swain, Meach, and Smith....andthink Taylor is loosely slated in the 4 spot as of now. The reality of the situation will play out where Rodgers and Hancock will both be on the field. Sort of a 5a, 5b. I think Briscoe might even find his way onto the field in certain situations. I think the talk of the shrinking list of WR's playing will really be felt most in the top 4. They will stay on the field as long as they are physically able. That is where the tighening up will be most apparent. I still think that the 5th spot, and even mabye 4th spot a little depending on Taylor's performance, will see multiple players at different times.

Josh Briscoe saw a lot more action at WR than Lucas Taylor or Austin Rodgers. I thought he did pretty well, too. In fact, I thought we needed him to play more last year. They should have kept Chris Hannon and Bret Smith off the field. Anyway, why is everyone writing Briscoe off?

LMS's opinion is far from the final word, though he seems knowledgable enough.

Briscoe has had a couple of notable fumbles, i.e. Georgia last year and the first or second scrimmage this fall when everyone was paying attention. Probably not fair to him, but its what I remember him for most. Doesn't seem to be a guy with a lot of speed either.

Exactly, I think Briscoe needs to take a redshirt year and come back next season as the #4 receiver.

1. Robert Meachem - We need him to make the big plays like he is supposed to.
2. Jayson Swain - He's our possession receiver. He will move the chains. He won't score 50, 60, 70 yard touchdowns but he will keep the chains moving and has reliable hands.
3. Bret Smith - He's our redzone threat. We also need him to make these plays in other places of the field. He's tall and fast and needs to become a better vertical receiver.
4. Lucas Taylor - He's our rising star and big playmaker .. if he can hold on to the ball, which I believe he will.
5a. Austin Rogers - Fast, physical, athletic. He can beat DBs down the sideline. He can block and wrestle balls away from smaller, weaker DBs. He can jump to get Ainge's high passes.
5b. Quinton Hancock - Just look at all his scrimmage stats. Playmaker, amazing hands.

Im a fan of Briscoe's. Im not writing him off at all. Yes he fumbled in the UGA game, but he also got straight smacked by 3 guys. The one handed Memphis TD makes up for it though.

If its certain that Briscoe will not get a lot of playing time, then I agree with him taking a redshirt. Briscoe will eventually be a star at UT. Maybe Slick too.
