I could give you many more than 5 reasons why they WON'T win the SEC East in 2017. The off season over-hype is well under way.

1 and 5 I don't get. True that we have experience at OL, but having been coached by Mahoney their entire career, and never being able to play as a cohesive unit negates at least some of the benefit of experience. Wells may be a decent hire, but I'm not sure how much impact he is going to be able to exert on the 2017 line at this point. Our QBs have been in the program with little to no playing time, and no dedicated QB coach until this spring, and that was a questionable hire. Expecting them to come out and play at an SEC level from the get go is pre-season wishful thinking.

QB play im not to concerned with. We have seen freshman success all over college football. But depending on who gets the start. Protecting him is the biggest concern.

You should be. Stay tuned. Fans will say damn where is Dobbs when you need him to bail out trumpet blower.

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/tennessee-football/5-reasons-tennessee-can-win-sec-east-season/

Here are the reasons from Saturday Down South.....article gives information/details

1. OL depth
2. Coaching Staff changes/shakeup
3. Playmakers on offense
4. Kicking game
5. QB play

There are six reasons Tennessee can win the East in 2017:

1. Florida isn't that good
2. Georgia is very much unproven
3. Vanderbilt is Vanderbilt
4. Kentucky is Kentucky
5. South Carolina is terrible
6. Missouri is dreadful.

I'm actually worried about a LACK of playmakers on offense. New QB, so that's an unknown. We saw glimpses of what Kelly can do, but we also don't know how durable he can be for a whole season. Behind him, we have zero experience at the RB spot. At WR, the only proven commodity we have is Jennings, and he's somewhat inconsistent from game to game. For Wolf at TE, I'd probably use the term "productive" and not "playmaker". I'm sure some kids will step up, but we lost our big 3 playmakers on offense.

Not exactly the reasons I'd have chosen either Cat.

1. We had OL depth last year too
2. Usually, 5 coaching staff changes don't lead to one to think it's a positive
3. We're losing our senior qb, our 1st/2nd rd RB and our best, most explosive/productive WR
4. We have Daniel as our punter which is great......but we have Medley as our kicker.
5. We're losing Dobbs and getting a first time starter with little or no experience? Is that really a reason to give?

1. SECE sucks.
2. UGA is UGA. Until they put it together I doubt them every season.
3. Vandy, USCjr, Mizzou, and UK are all a tier below. Four "sure" wins.
4. UF will be searching for some answers in new spots.
5. SECE sucks.

UT will right there with UGA and UF come November and it'll probably come down to who was able to avoid bad losses.

OL & DL, if they do not produce we are in trouble. We can debate all day about skill players but if you do not have "Big Uglies" that are doing the Job then you can suck it. This is key, merely my opinion of course 😋

1) We have a new AD.
2) SECW schedule is much easier this year.
3) Georgia Tech game won't present any new or different challenges for a team flush with new starters as key positions.
4) Ever since the Orange President (as my lib friends call him) was elected, only Orange teams have won the Natty.
5) Derek Mason's Vest was retired.
6) Georgia has to play Florida this year.
7) Paul Bain Heisman Campaign!

There are no "sure" SEC wins for Tennessee this year. 2016 taught us that, even though the SECe does indeed suck out loud.

If the Chemistry is right, this team could be better than last years. But with all the new coaches and new starters in key positions, that will not be easy.

Still we have a lot of talent and experience coming back for this season. Between Rock and Wells, I expect a lot more out of our OL. Coach Warren should get more production out of our secondary. Brady Hoke may not be Head Coach material but he is great with linemen!

Our season will be make or break on a few key variables: 1) CB play, 2) QB play, 3) DE replacements, 4) DT depth, 5) RB depth, 6) WRs step up to replace Malone, 7) TE utilization.

Edit: also turnovers, penalties and injuries.

After Hurd quit they looked good.

OL position is hardest on field to play other than QB. That is why experience is always key and having talented Athletes helps. We have both returning so health will be the key to this year line. Stay healthy and same 8 guys rotate and you can win East. The players around them are talented.

Not really. Hurd and Kelly were just quicker to the line and were less likely to get tackled in the backfield as opposed to at the line itself. Teams still got pressure on Dobbs, and there were few holes for the RBs to hit.

We will lose vs Bama and LSU for sure.
UGA & UF will be toss-ups.
Somebody we should beat will beat us, as they have every single year under Butch.
GA Tech isn't going to be an easy game. Will be QBs first start which will be tough.
I think we lose 4 or 5 and Butch loses his job.
You're dreaming on winning the SEC east.

Listed as reasons that UT can win the East next year are the offensive line (when we have not gotten consistently good O line play is years), wins over South Carolina and Vanderbilt (when we lost to those teams last year), and quarterback play (when we will be fielding a new starter). This article could be reprinted in The Onion with little or no changes.
