1. Come out mentally prepared. It has to be hard for these kids to keep a level head, as they have now dropped back on the national stage. This is the first time they have been ranked since the 2008 Preseason rankings. If the Vols "overestimate" their ranking, they may see themselves outside the rankings once again.

2. The first quarter. The Vols defense has been bending quite a bit in the first quarter. In each of the first two games the defense has not been aggressive in the first quarter and then hikes the intensity later. The vols need a fast start on defense and offense. A 14-3 first quarter lead may go along way, as Florida has very little firepower to play catchup.

3. Special Teams. The Vols need to play well, kick well and return well. Florida has an outstanding kicker and has typically been very good in the return game. Vols can not afford to give up an easy score and absolutely can't afford to let the game come down to a battle of Sturgis vs. Brodus.

4. Play Smart. Tennessee is the better team and has been the last two years. Last year the Vols had the wind taken out of them with the loss of Hunter and never recovered. If the Vols play turnover free this game should be in the bag.

5. Keep your demeanor. Florida has a talented defense that is missing at least three of its starters. Florida's defense mind set last year and this year (most likely) will be to frustrate the receivers. They play cheap and dirty, with lots of holds and interference calls. If our receivers become bothered mentally by this it could hurt us and we would play right into the Gators' slimy plan.

Tennessee was the better team last year but they had trouble dealing with adversity and when Hunter went down they gave in; until the fourth quarter and still almost had a chance to win the game.

Well-stated. :hi:

Florida let us "have a chance to win the game."

That being said, we didn't have a chance to win the game. I don't agree that we were for sure the better team, but we were fairly equally matched.

I do agree that the injury to Hunter probably affected the rest of the team mentally.

Don't forget that we went into that game having already lost our best defensive player. Then we suddenly lost our best offensive player when it looked like we were doing well. It had a different effect happening in the heat of the game. But that's on us. It's up to our guys to shake it off and they didn't.

The problem with the what if game is that we have our own version of it.

What if .... Hunter had not gone down? Tennessee would have thrown more and we would have intercepted 2 or 3 for touchdowns and won the game by a wider margin.

Florida may not have the "firepower" but they over came the same dang deficit just last week...on the road! C'mon mane.

Also Sal's Defense is based off of adjustments. We get a feel of the offense, then make the adjustments at half time/second quarter/whatever, thus explaining some slow starts.

As long as we bend but don't break, only giving up a few field goals, then I have confidence that Coach Sal will make the proper adjustments and we can start lightin these turkeys up.

Hard to get interceptions when ever play Fla is called for pass interference!

UT was in very good position to win that game with Hunter. I am not sure you can say that they were the better team. UT does look like the better overall team this year. Looking forward to the game, the matchups seem to favor UT more than UF.

I think I understand what you're saying. You can play 'what if?' in countless ways...particularly when you aren't restricted by logic and common sense.

1. Show Up
2. Run Better
3. Throw Better
4. Catch Better
5. Tackle Better

Football isn't nearly as complicated as many make it out to be. If you do the basics better than your opposition, you win.

Lol we were not the better team last year. You forget that our LBs got embarrassed by Rainey early and often. We were fairly. Lose teams but hardly better. They had a way better defense.

I'm just glad that we have a DC who can actually make the adjustments needed...

all we need to do is show up and stay in the game plan that coach has for those gators and let the athletes shine. then you will see who the better team is and why this vols team is better smarter and stronger.by the way after we win all they can say and will say is its about time.

Why do we have so many gator fans on our board, I posted this board for the tennessee fans and immediately had 3 or 4 gators come chomping?
