I believe he has all the physical attributes to play TE in the NFL but currently has no work at that position from which to grade him on. And thus far I don't think his hands are that great either. These are correctable tho. What might not be correctable are the mental attributes. A lot of that is up to him.Nice points. I disagree with his inability to play TE because Antonio Gates' body of work was on the BASKETBALL court, and you see the results he garnered. He may be an exception, and I'm sure you're thinking along those lines. Just be careful with casting too much doubt on Hurd's ability to play on the end of the line. He is big, strong, fairly fast, and can block well. If he works on routes, catching the ball, and "uncentering" himself from how the world rotates about its axis, he'll be ok.
appreciate the post, and a lot i agree with, some i don't.
i'd only say this....i'd take the 2016 version of Lane Kiffin over the 2009 version in a heartbeat.
I can't go there my friend! LK has shown a tremendous ability to call the right play at the right time, but has likewise shown us how deceive a program and a fan base into thinking WE were his top choice. Mike Hamilton gave LK work, and he thanked us all by walking out the door for an inferior job.
and i understand that, and can't debate it. i know i felt the same way for a long time after he left.
i don't see that as ever being a realistic thing. just as a what might have been type thing.
when we hired him, he was far from a finished product, and we did a terrible job of vetting and protecting ourselves....and it ended badly.
but, the way i look at this now is...if Lane Kiffin had never been hired here in 2009 and no debacle to ensue....would you feel comfortable hiring him today?
my answer would be a yes.

Apparently, you lack appreciation for Doug Dickey's tenure as the Vols HC. Is there a Tennessee coach of whose tenure you approve?
Dickey was HC 1964 - 1969. You were in high school?
i'm not going to try and push a "hire lane kiffin" agenda here, so don't misunderstand me.
but i do think someone is going to wind up with him as a HC, and i think he'll be A LOT better on his next go round....and wind up with a pretty darn good program as a result.
On one hand you have Jalen Hurd, who quit the team because the offense wasn't right for him and wants to play another position for another school.
On the other hand you have Jauan Jennings, who gave up being a QB to play WR, anything to help the team win. And plays like it every single play.
Night and day people, night and day.
Your post is very contradicting so I'm not putting much value in your comments. Statement 1 you say butch needs to take ownership and run the asylum. Statement 4 you hate Hurd but he is disrespectful cause he knows Jones is an idiot. If I was him I would be mad at the play calling, scheme, o-line etc. he is a Fararri parked on a barn at Tennessee.
Never thought I would say that but my pride is hurt with all the bs going on in Knoxville and in the end the coach is responsible.
Although Kiffin didn't commit the same level of grievances as Bobby Patrino did while at Arkansas, I do tend to think that LK could well wind up with a good solid coaching job, even in the SEC. Petrino showed that humbling yourself and working your way back into the spotlight (WKU) is doable. Kiffin being the OC at Bama gives him the stage he needs to land at a semi-major school next year. But UT? Out of the question!😳
:hi:Graduated in 69. Remember blue font! I have been there through the ups and downs and never want a coach fired (other than Dooley - I was on the fence about him until the Kentucky game). I started going to games when Bowden Wyatt was the coach! First game was Tulane and was there for the upset of the Chinese Bandits. So.... yes I am more seasoned than some.
i think with some of the jobs that may be open at the end of the year, he may get an opportunity at a bigger job than many think. maybe not in the SEC...but i could see him landing in the ACC or Big 12 possibly...depending on what else happens.
it would take a very forward thinker to realistically consider bringing Kiffin back here. and someone with some very thick skin and credit to spare.
a new AD won't have that, so no, i don't think it's realistic at all.
