This is by far the most important hire in Currie's professional life but is it TN's? Could be. New coach will be the 5th coach in 11 years while only 2 coaches in close to three decades previous. I know people want it, and want it now but is 4 weeks really worth risking the 4-10 years if you rush the hire?

*side note
Every school is different on level of input but make no mistake, EVERY school's big boosters have input/say on candidates and hires. UGA boosters told UGA AD McGarity to get the **** out of the way. McGarity wanted Mullen (was together at Fla), he wasn't even allowed to interview him.

So, when a new coach is named, whether it be Bo Schembechler or Bo Jackson, boosters deserve praise/criticism as much as the AD. Also, keep in mind some idiot started a fireurbanmeyer.com at Fla bc they didn't know who he was at Fla.

Which coach brings stability?

Les Miles

Just win the east for 8-10 years load the shelf with talent.

Les Miles could win the East. He is battle tested. He would surround himself with an excellent staff. He knows this would be his last rodeo and he would want to go out as a National Championship winner. If not Les, then throw the money at Frost. Money talks and BS walks....

My thought is let's fire Butch today and let Miles take over so he will at least have three days to get ready for Kentucky. I hate that were sticking with Butch.

Stay aways from the Dooley's Joneses up and comers MAC title winners and all the lower tier guys I don't care if they are 85 and 5. Go for the guy that has either won in the SEC, the NFL or some other major conference. You keep hiring these up and comers this is how it turns out.

Huh? That's why he got fired. He could not hire a quality OC or develop QBs.
I think he's a lot like Butch in that he doesn't do anything particularly well except recruit. He is not a master of any facet of the game.

Butch was a WR coach and it's arguably the worst position on this team.

I'm with Miles. Frost if he goes anywhere will be Nebraska. He is their Peyton Manning so to speak, if a change is made there they will throw the farm at him to land him.

Because 3 days is PLENTY of time to implement a new system

Well we don't actually have a system at the moment, just 4 plays. So.......

But in all seriousness a new coach needs to be recruiting right now with the early signing period.

Interestingly, we go 32 years with two coaches and win 71% of our games but then go 9 years with four coaches and only win 52% of our games.

Thank God fans are wanting another change

5 coaches in 11 years is par for the course when you are making bad decisions on hires. At least they are still trying.

There is absolutely no comparison between Butch and Les if we’re comparing resumes

Some of those tier II coaches are excellent hires. It's the AD's / Board responsibility to find the right guy and make the hire.

Not some guy who went 7-4 @ La Tech with only 1 winning season that was the HBC/AD at the same time.

Butch had a fair chance and he failed. Time to move on- when we are 0-27 in recent games vs top ten teams, there is no other path. It may get a little worse, might be a Saban-like hire.

So? The program went from 5 SEC Championship Game appearances in 11 years to 5 coaches in 11 years.
yep

hell, if they cant go 12-0 in their first year, f 'em and fire 'em. One will work.....eventually. Law of averages. Nobody got time to build a program

That's a little deceptive. You could have just as easily said that UT has had 5 coaches in the last 25 years.

Les Miles would be among the worst hires UT could make. He was fired for a reason... a GOOD reason. That would practically be hiring the same guy... except older

Jones has had MORE than enough time to prove he could "build" a program. The program roster wise is almost back to the point where he started with regard to quality depth and talent.

But to answer you... No. Give Jones an ironclad 10 year contract because stable mediocrity (or worse) under coaches that prove they cannot build nor coach a roster to a championship level is how championship programs are built. Well... maybe 10 years isn't good enough... maybe he needs 20 before anyone questions whether he can coach or not.
