You can't just flatly compare statistics across different era like that.
11 games used to be 12 games because of added cupcake. Bowls also used to be a much more prestigious deal. The NCAA landscape has not always been the same.
Tennessee is one of the top 10-15 programs in the country and it's not debatable.
The so called "Sunshine Pumpers" are nothing more than millennial scum who want to drag us down to their level.
The fact is UT is a historically top level football program, just outside of the top 5 or so "elite" tier. It's time to stop eating **** and liking it or we may not be able to change the culture back to what it was.
I think we're a elite program also but changing coaches at this point would be crazy. 4 years is not enough time to rebuild what we came from.
With Rommel at the helm, our roster was completely depleted. And, Butch walked into a bigger rebuild than any team he's taken over.
I was disappointed with the vandy loss and not being in the sec championship this year but I understand what this team has went through. We are probably lucky that we won 8 games.
There are risks in firing a coach and hiring a new one that you hope will win championships for you.
There is certainty that accepting performance like Jones had this year will result in 2nd tier or worse teams.
What the OP seems to ignore is that Jones went 8-4 with a 10 win team.... and lost to USCe and Vandy.... and has never beaten Muschamp.
Unless he DRASTICALLY improves as a coach, 8 regular season wins is his high water mark. His typical year is 5 to 7 wins.

I haven't overlooked anything.
What was going on with the team during the usce loss. There was something going on at that time and you can't convince me there wasn't.
I don't know what happened in the vandy game. I think the team panicked though. I've also seen better UT teams lose to vandy,. Can you explain that.
We have not been relevant in 20 almost years. No one cares about historic top level teams, that gets you squat.
There is not a single coach out there that we can hire right now that will turn this into a Top 5 program, not a single one.
If Butch leaves, that's exactly where we'll be for the next 10 years. Because I don't know of any coach that can come in and get the imbecile's what they want in the 1st to the 4th years. And, I don't have any confidence in the people hiring the next coach....
So, please, celebrate getting rid of a 9-4 coach, for someone that can't do the job the present coach is doing.
Thank you guys for making it absolutely unbearable to be on volnation right now. What we need is a little more negativity. So, carry on.
Urban Meyer dominated this conference and beat Alabama after he left. Harbaugh is every bit the coach that Meyer is. Those 2 teams would destroy everyone but Alabama.
Urban Meyer could not handle the grind of SEC football. The stress was too much for his body to take.
Harbaugh is still a work in progress.
And I think most here realize that Butch isn't the answer, but want to keep him anyway because they're afraid of what might happen if we had to find someone else. It's the wimpiest thing ever.
This is like a dysfunctional relationship.

Yeah, because beating everyone (except Saban) is so stressful and Ohio State is a stress-free vacation.
The SEC is nothing special right now. I'm sure it will take some on this board a few years to admit it, but the best conferences are the conferences with the best coaches, and that is no longer the SEC.
My information must be bad. I thought Meyers had a panic attack while at Florida and retired due to health reasons. If that is true he buckled under the pressures of the SEC, if that is not true, then what is the truth?
Sometimes the best conference can be decided by the conf. that wins the NC year after year, even it's the same team year after year.
Go Vols!
