#48 should be retired

Retiring #s is stupid.

Except for the WW2 losses. That makes sense.

I agree. I've never understood why you can't honor a player, put his picture up, even a statue if need be, yet still use their number.

Seems silly. Plenty of way to honor someone, but only 99 numbers.

I don't think his number should be retired. All American and all sec isn't good enough.

Beattie Feathers also held the NFL record for YPC at 9.6. They let the record stand for 75 years, then they come up with this,"nobody can do that it must have been poor record keeping. Of course when they changed it there were only a couple of really old players alive and they protested it because they had to tackle him and couldn't. Nobody today could average 9.6 ypc so they just changed the record book. Sucks. imo

We have to realize that most of the posters on the boards are so young that they have never heard of these players, much less seen any film of them playing.

If you want to read about who I think was the best football player to ever ply at Tennessee, look up Bob Suffridge on Wikipedia. I know you will be impressed.

He was a three time All American and Tennessee did not lose a regular season when he played.

Read his bio on wiki, it was impressive. Too bad he died young in 74.
