Can we not run a couple of more running plays and get closer so Lincoln can get underneath the ball more since it would be shorter?? That's the only qualm I have with yesterday's game plan and play calling.

I was thinking the same thing but, the coaches didn't want to take a chance on a interception i believe.

a couple of running plays with no to's? Like Kiffin said, he wanted our guys to have a shot at the win

I can almost guarantee that if we run a couple more plays we get a holding call.

I understand that, but can we not at least try and advance the ball 5 more yards?? That's a big difference in angle and how you kick it. It's not like the refs wouldn't have been able to spot the ball with 30+ seconds left.

Agree 100% with your assessment. If Lincoln were healthy I could see this strategy, but with a bad quad ever additional yard would have been critical.

I think the holding call scenario is right on. There line was better then our line and it was highly likely a guy would of held to prevent a busted play. I have no problems with not running another play.

Thing is, it wouldn't matter if the attempt was made from 47 or 27. Lincoln still buries it into Cody's fat gut.

We were in FG range. On previous drives we had messed up good field position with false starts and holding penalties. There's always a chance of turning the ball over if you try to get closer. I think Kiffin made the correct decision, although at the time I was wishing we would run a play or two more.

I'm actually surprised Bama didn't use their timeouts to either make us run more plays, and have a chance for getting the ball back if we had made the FG.

I wish they could have put Scott and McClendon right there where they came through. Anyone know who was actually right there??

It makes a BIG difference. You can actually get the ball up quicker on a 27 versus a 47. That might have made a huge difference.

No matter what, the kicker has to get the ball over the line from 44. It's actually good for Lincoln that it got blocked. It shares the blame. If you watch the flight of the ball it was going to be wide left.

We can compete with anyone in the country in 2/3 of the game.

Kiffin did the right thing.

Uhhh no we lost so it was not the "right thing". You may want to check Kiffin's comment after the game

"I'll go back over that a million times," Kiffin said. "I'm already killing myself for it. You'd like to think you can kick a field goal to win the game."

It was a F U. Period

i see kiffins point on he didnt want to take the game out of the players hands by getting a BS flag.... that would have been a great opportunity for the SEC officials to throw one and controll the game....

Or a fumble or an interception,.....

BUT..... NOT SO FAST
46 seconds left i found my self screaming through the TV RUN THE BALL......JUST RIN ANOTHER PLAY COMMON WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUR KICKER HAS MISSED a HANDFULL OF FIELD GOALS!!!!!

I was thinking get him alittle closer so he didnt have to stress quite as bad but again I see Kiffins view on it.... But im sure he was thinking the same thing after the block....

hmmm maybe I should have run another play to see if hardesty could break a 10 yarder and make it a 37 yd field goal

Ohh well thats football

That's why I could never be a coach - you could drive yourself crazy second-guessing after the game. Running another play could have gone wrong in several ways, Coach Kiffin made a decision and in hindsight maybe it was the wrong one. I'm not going to complain, though. The Vols played their hearts out and that's all I ask.

The refs were doing their best to keep us from winning, if we ran 1 or 2 more plays we would have gotten a 10 or 15 yard penalty and everyone would be crying about why we had to keep running more plays. Kiffin himself said in his postgame notes that he wanted to give them a shot to win it and we were put in a position to win it. I think if we had 1 more timeout we would have ran 1-2 more plays, but we couldn't chance it with no time outs. Before the game started if they told us if we wanted to kick a 44 yard field goal to win I would have taken it.

Kiffin said he did not want to risk a penalty or sack which would have taken us out of range. Those are certainly realistic concerns given our history. I have no problem with that. Lincoln should have made at least 1 of the 3 he missed.

Questioning the end-game playcalling of Kiffin is getting old. I know there is a thread somewhere titled "Looks like we are playing not to win again." I'm sure it was created before we got the TD and the onsides kick, but it just goes to show that Kiffin knows what he is doing and is always playing to win. Lincoln had hit a 49 yarder and missed a 47 yarder by about a foot earlier in the game. Bottom line is that a 44 yard kick is one that all SEC kickers should make, especially at crunch time. The risk vs. the reward is not worth it in that situation. Do you not think Alabama would stuff a run up the middle? We would get 4 yards max. If there is a holding penalty, we are out of field goal range. If we fumble, the game is over. If it works, it's a 40 yarder instead of a 44 yarder. Do you think 4 yards would've made the difference in Lincoln's kick?

No. Kiffin made the correct call. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I would have liked maybe one more running play but I didn't really have any problems with the coaching/ time management down the stretch. We had the perfect opportunity to win.
