People have definitely given up on Bailey WAY too fast.Bailey reminds me of Peyton, by going about this business throughout the entire game, which is to get the ball in the hands of the right playmaker for the defense he's facing. He is not flashy or perfect, but over the course of a game, he makes a number of plays needed to win. I wanted to see him get more game experience last year, to get his head adjusted to the speed of SEC play. But I am confident in his abilities to be a winning QB. I also think that we are fortunate to have Hooker on the team, because he's an experienced and proven veteran. Will Maurer develop his decisionmaking and execution? Could be he's done that already for all I know. Haven't seen the other guys in the QB room. After being lost at sea for years, it is hard for me to think of our QBs as better than barely alive, but they are alive and well, and I think they are capable of winning games this season. My enthusiasm feels stepped on, but my mind still tells me that Tennessee has potential for a better year than expected. It might not be so stacked as a few others in the SEC, but there are a lot of good players on this team.
I haven't given up on him. He doesn't have great arm strength but I really like that he's decisive and confident when he throws the ball. He's accurate on the short stuff. I think a year should have helped him on the longer stuff. Golesh didn't give much away when asked about the QB's. He mentioned Maurer's athleticism and arm... and said HB had a "knack". Those aren't negatives for either guy but does point toward what we're talking about.People have definitely given up on Bailey WAY too fast.
Prior to the Salter suspension many were speculating that he'd leap frog Bailey. I feel like we haven't really seen Bailey's potential, he had no spring, limited reps in fall camp, he was just thrust into starting with little preparation. I think a normal spring, summer and fall camp are going to do wonders for him. He also stayed when many speculated that he'd leave. I think alot of people are assuming what we saw out of him last year is what he is. I still think he can be alot more.I haven't given up on him. I haven't seen anyone saying the things about Bailey that several have made about Maurer. He's the only one I've seen written off by anyone here.
I will pull for any of these guys. I want a great competition and improved QB play. As long as we get that... I don't care about the name on the jersey. I just don't see anyone writing HB off.

There’s actually proof of it my man. They measure arm strength at the elite 11. His long toss was 58 yards. But what you’re failing to realize is arm strength is just a bonus and only plays a fraction of overall talent. My point is saying he doesn’t have the arm strength of the others is true but it doesn’t mean those that say it are claiming he’s not talented. You just take it that way because you don’t want to hear it.The whole HB doesn't have arm strength narrative is nonsense, false, and frankly silly for a seasoned football fan or player to push.
Watching Bailey was like a breath of fresh air. Sure he made some inaccurate passes, but for the most part he went through his progressions well, stepped up in the pocket, and was able to use his legs when the pocket would break down. He made plenty of mistakes, like holding on to the ball too long, but that’s expected of a freshman. I’m expecting him to take a big jump this season.I haven't given up on him. I haven't seen anyone say that Salter would jump Bailey this year. I don't doubt you. I just don't think it is a widespread sentiment. I've seen many write Maurer off and even claim he does not have SEC caliber physical ability. If he doesn't... then UT doesn't have a QB who does.Prior to the Salter suspension many were speculating that he'd leap frog Bailey. I don't disagree. We saw things to like and things not to like. The one concern that lingers is pure arm strength. He surprised opponents by running. He's not going to make a living doing it.Watching Bailey was like a breath of fresh air.
