Memphis, Memphis, Memphis. No matter what In-state recruiting looks like. Good or bad, there are always talented players there. This kid looked like a man among boys when he was only a sophomore.

I hope he stays healthy. I can see why LSU wanted him.
Having played my high school ball in Memphis I can speak from experience when I say there is always talent in Memphis. We love the Vols in West TN too. UT needs to spend more time at those FCA camps and that Jamboree that kicks off the season every year. There are about 20 teams in 2days at that event. All those teams will have at least 1 D1 player on their rosters, they'll get their share of players.

I think the NIL may have something to do with it

I agree. I think NIL (for all its potential pitfalls) is going to benefit schools with big, rabid fan bases in areas without other pro sports. And that describes east Tennessee perfectly. So local businesses will pay good money to have popular UT players sell their products and services. Compare that to, say, UGA, where local businesses might rather hire a Falcon/Hawk/Brave to be their spokesman. If I'm right, NIL will benefit (in this particular way, at least): UT, KY, Ala, Auburn, Ark, OM, MsSt. In contrast, Vandy, TAMU, LSU, Fla, Missouri and UGA are all located in the shadow of an NFL team and sometimes other pro sports. Mere college players might have a harder time getting jobs shilling for a company's product in that competitive environment. Can a coach sell that point to a recruit? Curious to know if anyone agrees with that? Or am I off base in some way I'm not seeing?

Seems like we have been making a really good push in recruiting as of late after a slow start. I don’t have time to stay buried in it so I might be wrong but I was getting extremely worried. I’m feeling a lot better.
This is a good get, but I think we now have 11 or 12 commits and are around 12th in the SEC

Always a black cloud for every silver lining. Any higher level commit at this point with the uncertainty surrounding the program is a small step in the right direction. Please try not to be a "Show me the baby" kind of person and enjoy the small victories until we start the ball rolling again. GBO!

Those are some good points and I can definitely see that happening. Uncharted waters right now with NIL so no telling how it pans out.

Does anyone know if it would be legal for a company to offer a contract to a recruit that is contingent upon them signing with a particular team?

Any black clouds in my post are figments of your imagination. I've pretty much hated every hire post-Fulmer but I think this one may actually have a shot to get us to respectability.

My comments on the current recruiting levels are simply accurate.

We have signed a good number of recruits out of Memphis, the trouble is that a majority of them turn out to be thugs or troublesome.

Hope JH has done his research on this one.

Bryson Eason
TaMarion McDonald
Eric Gray (transfer out)
Martaviius French (sure okay)
Jerome Carvin
Jeremy Banks (...not really)
Spencer Smith (haha thug life??)
Jabari Small
Issac Green

9 players within the last year of the program are from Memphis area. 1 maybe 2 were thugs.
Eric Gray taking money doesn't count. So is it really "most"???

I am not even from Memphis, but you're comment reeks of stereotypical nonsense.

Good get. If it's the NIL helping than fine. Something has/had to change for us to EVER get over the Bama hurdle. If they keep getting 5 stars than they will win for another 20 years. I see this NIL as potentially shaking things up so we can find an avenue to compete w them. Even if Saban stays forever. I see us potentially beating Fla and GA every year....but Bama? That train just keeps rolling. Something has to stop it. Maybe this NIL thing will help.
