Our offense is set to play matchups, Butch say a weakness in there run defense and short yardage and threw in a few wrinkles. It will not be a staple of our offense. We are a shotgun primarily offense atleast with Dobbs. We will see under center but it will be situational not a staple of the offense.

Butch has been here long enough to see the weaknesses of his offense playing SEC speed every week. It produces too many negative plays. I don't recall one negative play when they operated under center. I hope it becomes a regular part of the offense as UT can bully people with Hurd and the O line returning.

Our Offense was the 5th Best offense in School History this year, So that means we should change it right? This is ridiculous, I believe there are times to take it under center, but not anywhere close to what any of you are suggesting. We will be a Shotgun team with situational plays under center, and Hurd did just fine running the ball out of this offense, he only like 800 or so yards from being the all time leading rusher at UT and he didn't even play his whole freshman year.

Hurd got obliterated out of that set on a regular basis...still got yards, but I think he's a 1500+ yard back. Mix it up right and he'll get more out of both. The off-set I ain't gonna be this years jump pass ala Florida...it ain't going away. Neither is the shotgun read.

Gotta choose your battles. The I-formation can't be used against a team like Alabama because Saban's defense is too talented and built to stop a pro-style attack. Against many of the other teams on the schedule though it would be nice to see it sprinkled in.

I don't see it being used EXCLUSIVELY...but it will be used EXTENSIVELY...yes...even against mighty Bama! The shotgun spread ain't going away...neither is this. This inferiority complex we have towards Bama needs to be a relic before we take the next step. Mixing passes out of the I with runs out of the spread behind the same legitimate OL will both keep them off balance and mash them. You don't beat Bama by tricking them...you have to BEAT them. Ole Miss and Ohio State have the most recent formulas. Both took the fight to them without worrying about what they couldn't do.

It will not be used extensively by any means, it will be small packages and seen against some teams more than others. This offense is all about match ups and crowding everyone for a power run doesn't always work.

It is a small package in the offense. Nothing has given us reason to think otherwise. It worked against Northwestern, it was a wrinke that they hadn't seen us do all year. You are making way to much out of it.:)
