4 of 5 of these things can’t continue

to have a chance at winning on Saturday. These “things” have happened all year, and they must end for our Vols to come out on top.

1. Get off the field on 3rd or 4th and long on defense multiple times.
2. No dropped or deflected passes, especially sure TDs.
3. Not scoring after turnovers, namely TDs.
4. Trying to score a TD every single time we have the ball until the very last second ticks off. No more slowing down, settling for FGs or punting if we have a chance at a TD.
5. No stupid momentum changing penalties when we are moving the ball, ie, false starts, personal fouls, etc.
6. Bonus. Do not run the ball straight up the middle on 3rd and long and/ or don’t throw long in the end zone 3 straight times when we need 5 yards to get a first down.

I’m not even going to mention reffing. We know it’s going to come into play, this is why we need to pick this game to clean up ALL of the issues above. If we don’t it’s going to be a long night
Awesome post, all of the above are holding us back but if we could just eliminate a few of them we would be a far better team

No dropped passes is a big ask for any team. Drops happen.

But your other points are all valid.

Here’s another thing that can’t continue. Blue chip ratio for Bama in 2025 is 89%. Blue chip ratio for UT is 54%. Stars don’t always matter, but a team full of them does.

The defense just doesn't match up well against big physical teams with big RB's like ARK and MissSt... we miss Lott in the middle, and don't have good LB's except for Spillman... we need 8-in-the-box to stop the run... one ray of hope was 3Q play against ARK where we had a good first step to the ball carrier... we'll have our hands full with Bama's run attack.

Alabama has proven to be inconsistent this year and hasn't demonstrated the ability to stop the run. If we play well in the secondary, improve LB play, and consistently keep Ty contained and on his back, we will win.

I'd be very happy if #1 and #5 could be accomplished not just this week, but every week.

And I would add:

** Never, ever, ever, ever, play coverage on 3rd or 4th and long - always, always, always make sure you are pressuring the QB.

I can accept giving up a 1st down conversion if the offense executes a play and beats a blitz. I cannot accept it when a mediocre QB can sit in the pocket and pick apart drop coverage.

This defense has exactly two strengths right now - rushing the QB and turning the ball over. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, just simply do whatever is necessary to maximize our strengths.

Agree OP. CJH needs to extend his play sheet past the first three series unlike he did against Georgia. After that third series, it was like he just wanted to run the clock the next three and a half quarters.
Aguilar has to pull the trigger as well. There are deep shots baked into many of our plays. Sometimes he takes the surer throw. Time for him (the qb) to cut it loose. Not play scared.

#6 makes me IRATE!!!! We do it WAY too much! Get the 🤬 first down, then set up your shot!

Unfortunately, most of the list are discipline issues and those don’t change in one week and it is one of the big weaknesses of this entire coaching staff.
