4 Guards and Center

He didn’t play well sure but let’s start where it always should start: his coach was trash to start with and at the end only did enough to draw a check.
I think it was mostly our head coach was trash and beyond horrible at creating a team atmosphere and inspiring people to do their best. Guys like Jim Chaney and Will Friend have been successful at other stops. Friend instantly got hired by two different SEC programs after leaving here. Pruitt was cancer. Heupel seems to be doing his best to try to root it out, we may still be weak this year from the chemo (i.e. the roster attrition and other post-Pruitt emotional residue), and that won't be Heupel's fault.

Don't disagree but as someone else mentioned RT and LT are not the same. RT may have as much or more in common with OG than LT.

Cade is the only one playing out of position (physically more of a guard). Cade at RT makes the whole OL better.

In the future (NFL) he will play guard.

This is not my biggest concern for the team. LB's and depth are my biggest concerns!

And this right here is why you guys hoping for all these wins are delusional- we are severely handcuffed by lack of depth. The good teams are three deep- little way to compete with that - one game- sure - but 12 of of em? Ooof.
1) Wright was highly recruited OT coming that had underperformed to to bad coaching. Mays played every position while at Georgia.
2) Your sad opinion is duly noted and subsequently ignored.

Anyone else concerned Mays and Wright playing out of position are our best options at tackle?
Wright is a natural LT, it’s where he played till he came to Tennessee. Both he and Wayna were LTs. That’s why Wright was moved to RT.

I think someone is trying to create drama.
ON VN?

No way. Don't believe it.

I'd be more concerned if we had a coaching staff that sent the 4 best out there and left the 5th best on the sideline.

Wright’s an OT.

No he’s right next level Wright is an OG as is Mays. Remember when I said this and was attacked when Mays and Trey were recruits and almost got killed on here lmao. But Wright was at his best when they put him at RG

Cade is a natural guard, but if the staff has him playing at tackle any this year, it'll be because, for better or worse, he is the best option at tackle, so I'm fine with it. I do think Cade plays at a higher level at guard.
i think RT will be Parker after some needed conditioning and may be Calbert's, (injury), position also. Cade's the best option there for the time being.

Disagree with you. It happens. Not about Mays, but Wright is reminiscent of a VN syndrome that wants all of our OL to be interior. Calbert hopefully gets a shot on the inside if he returns. But Wright simply needed a loss of weight and a gain of motivation and solid teaching. I projected Davis as our weak side for the next 3 but Wright went out and grabbed it.

Nobody is playing out of position. Wright was always a tackle and Mays can easily pay four OL positions. He thinks he'll be a guard in the NFL, but he's a fine college tackle.

I would definitely say Mays is oop. He may be our best RT, but that doesn't mean that's his best position. He was schooled pretty bad at UGA at T in a lotta situations. None of that means that he's still not better than all our backups at T tho.

Agreed. I am curious… do we even have bodies? Just hoping we do so depth can be coached up throughout the season.

We got bodies. Practice report 15: "The combinations don't look to have changed on the offensive line with (left to right) Darnell Wright, Jerome Carvin, Cooper Mays, Javontez Spraggins and Cade Mays comprising the first group, and (left to right) Jeremiah Crawford, Jackson Lampley, Parker Ball, Kingston Harris and Dayne Davis comprising the second group. RJ Perry at left tackle, James Robinson at left guard, Chris Akporoghene at right guard and William Parker at right tackle were in the third group. Center Ollie Lane continues to be limited." When Lane is back, this is a good three deep at every position.

Short answer --- No.

Long answer let's see how the season goes. We might not have other options anyway.
FYI Wright was a left tackle coming out of HS as a top 5 OT. Pruitt moved him to RT because of Wanya. He’s back at RT and will be a huge surprise this season! Book it!

He played really poorly at tackle against them last year also. It had a direct hand in some of the disastrous events of the second half. He should be a grizzled vet this year no matter where he plays, no excuses either way if he wants to be a high draft pick, but I'd feel best about him at guard. Hopefully Dayne Davis and Darnell Wright assert themselves so that we can slide Cade inside next to Cooper. That's our best chance at a dominant unit I think.

In hindsight there is no way JG should have fumbled that ball. Take the sack and hold on the ball. What a weak link he was for the past four years.

Agreed! I do think the unit will have to play well together for individual accolades to be handed out. This is why they play the games!

Very detailed. Thank you. Hope you are right about it being a good 3 deep.

IDK, he had 19 and 13 in his jock almost immediately. That defender Cade had punched it out, he didn't drop it. JG's got plenty of faults but his left tackle's got to do better than that.

He saw that pressure coming for a long time so I so disagree agree with you that it wasn’t his fault the fumble occurred. He absolutely choked and didn’t take care of the ball.
