(4) Celtics vs. (5) Hawks

Yeah, their defense really hasn't been too bad. Hawks have also gotten a bunch of wide open looks but the shots aren't falling. Doesn't help that Josh Smith has reverted back to chucking bad shots. He likes to kill the mo

The absolute best thing -- maybe the only good thing -- about the whole Hawks organization is their radio announcer, Steve Holman. He's the biggest homer I've ever heard on any broadcast; he makes Larry Munson sound like an impartial national announcer. I listed to most of tonight's game on the radio out on the deck. He says what he thinks and rips everybody. "Here comes Marvin Williams, AKA the Invisible Man, into the game. He's lit it up tonight for two points so far." Etc. The guy is golden. I can't believe he hasn't ever been fired.

Yeah, he has a nice Mystery Science Theater 3000 quality about him.

Nba radio announcers are all huge homers. The blazers play by play man is a gent by the name of Brian wheeler who coined "boomshakala"

Any time there's an even slightly questionable call he'll rip into the reds like nobody ive ever seen

My three year old girl calls the whole sport of basketball "Boomshakalaka," from watching her brother and me play NBA Jam. During basketball season she'd ask me "Is Tennessee playing Boomshakalaka tonight?" Pretty funny.

The thing I like about the Hawks' guy is that he doesn't hesitate to light into the players when they deserve it. Except Joe Johnson. That seems to be one line even he knows he's not allowed to cross.

What line is that?

The owner's/gm's line of " we made a terrible mistake giving a second rate player a max contract, we realize this, maybe if we all ignore it it will go away like Josh Smith's love of 17 foot jumpers".

That line? Or is Johnson somehow beloved by Hawk fans?

Yeah, that exact line. The guy is effectively the fourth-best player on the team now (John Smith, Al Horford, Jeff Teague) and yet he's got a contract that will cripple the team for years. The horrible Hawks ownership was narrowly worried about short-term ticket sales, so they did whatever they had to do to keep Johnson.....and now they're screwed.

Holman used to criticize Johnson as much as the other players, but not in the last couple years. That contract must be too touchy for him to even think about going there.

Joe is a fine player but that contract is one of the worst in the NBA. How many years are left on it?

I think it's four more years after this one. You can't sign a guy who doesn't show up in the playoffs every year to a max contract. The only way he could be the best player on a title contender is if he had a hell of an ensemble around him....and his contract makes it impossible to sign that supporting cast. Signing that contract condemned the Hawks to keep being mediocre as long as Johnson's around.

31-28 Celtics with 3 minutes til halftime.

Boston has really cooled off from the last game.

Hawks hanging in there...

Josh Smith is lost and No Show Joe is in full effect. I can hear the gagging from here.

10-1 Boston run to end the 3rd. Man, man, man.

How many times does a team have to fold like a cheap tent before its time to break them up?

Heard a stat today. The Hawks have lost 19 of their last 45 playoff games by 13 or more points and have lost by 20+ points 9 times. They're just gutless when it matters.

That's the the problem with the Johnson contract. How do you break them up when you're stuck with Johnson for four more years? About all you can do is trade John Smith, but it's still going to be Johnson leading an ensemble cast because you can't afford to bring anybody else in. Hell, they couldn't even keep Crawford. Nothing is going to change as long as Johnson's here.

I'm sure it's a coincidence that the number of playoff games Joe Johnson has played for the Hawks is.....45.

Nice little run by the Hawks once Larry Drew finally put Horford back in. Change needs to start with the coach.

Why keep Pierce out again? Man, you don't take your chances in the playoffs.

The defense completely changes when there's a threat on the floor at the 5. It also helps when Josh Smith's rainbow prayers start going in.

Hawks up by 3 but I don't think they've got a chance of holding on. Just too prone to wilt.

Hawks were up like 7(or something like that), I leave the room, come back a few seconds later it's tied? wtf
