3rd in the East?

First it was moral victories and now Vol fans are setting goals to finish 3rd in the East. Not in the conference or the nation, but the division. I hope this is not what UT football has been reduced to.

At this point, UK, Vandy, and Ole Miss are likely. That leaves the Vols with Bama, UGA, USC, and LSU. It is unlikely the Vols will beat Bama or LSU. I think the Vols will compete with UGA and USC with a possible upset of UGA.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I'm thinking, too, at this point, although I'm not so sure that beating UGA would be an upset, per se.

I'm too tired right now to figure it out, but I'm assuming the best we'll probably see is a tie for 3rd...

On a side note, I just can't resist talking about Florida..
They lose to Bama and potentially LSU and Carolina (but since they have those last two games at home, they'll probably win). I think they'll lose to FSU at the end as well... They'll go into the SECCG with 2 losses (1 conf loss) and will have to turn right around to play Bama again, which will give them 3 losses.

UF will not make it to the BCS this year. And that, at least, makes me happy.

And I don't get where people are seeing the LSU win. I suspect that Dooley is a better coach than Miles, but they have far more talent than we do and are playing at home.

I don't see a win over LSU at LSU either... but then again, I haven't seen any of their games this year and from what very little I've read about them, one would think their offense is just as non-productive as ours.... right now.

(???)

Obviously getting bowl eligible is our top goal but continuing the streak should be up there as well.

I believe that Tennessee will get better each week. It's pretty safe to say Georgia will get much better each week when they get Green back at WR, also their D is gonna give the O-line fits more so if we have any more attrition on the O-line.

3rd in the east is very, very far fetched

If we beat Georgia, they'll have (at least) 3 SEC losses with games still to come against Florida (likely loss), Auburn (possible loss), and Kentucky (possible loss). If we win that game, I think we finish ahead of them (or tied but winning the tiebreaker). Basically, the Georgia and Kentucky games will be the battle for 3rd in the East. If we win both, we'll definitely take 3rd if we can beat Vandy and Ole Miss, possibly even if we only beat one of Vandy and Ole Miss. Kentucky does have the advantage of the weakest SEC West slate (Ole Miss, MSU, and Auburn), but a head to head win at least gives us an advantage.

Ga's terrible and UK is overrated. UT can beat both. Vandy? Get real--UT blows them out.

We're going to lose to Georgia. We also could very easily lose to BOTH Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

In other words, NO.

WOW Vol423! I'm a bit more positive and have faith in my team... I think with hard work and good attitudes we can beat all three teams!

Actually, UGA is in the same boat as we are, both inexperienced and lack in depth. Don't let that Arkansas Or USC JR game fool you, UGA kept playing and both Ark And USC JR quit and that's why they kept them games close. Tennessee beats UGA.

That is just wrong.

At this point we could end up 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th or 6th in the East. I think we beat Kentucky, Vandy, Georgia and Ole Miss. That gives us 4-4 in conference at least. That gives us 7 wins and if we pull a major surprise like a win at USC or LSU then we are at 8-4. It really all depends on that Georgia upset win, we gotta get it.

with our defense struggling....tackling one week (but don't dismiss lattimore) and pass coverage the next (mallet is the SEC's best qb) i'd rate the Ga/Ut game a toss-up today. But AJ Green will be on the field Oct 9th. The impact of losing AJ Green cannot be understated. There were multiple times vs SC and Ark where AJ could have made a huge difference for us, and I do think we win at least one of those games with him in there.

also worth mentioning....UGA was playing without 5 starters vs. Arkansas.

If UGA keeps losing, the wheels may come off. And if we keep improving, we can win that game and finish in the top 3 in the East. It's all about progress. With such a young team, we have room to make a lot of it.

I agree dx. This season could easily go in a multitude of directions.

My opinion. I saw marked improvement between the Florda and Oregon games. I believe we will only get better a minimizing mistakes (and mistakes is what cost us the Florida game, not game plan). I think we will compete extremely well in every game but the Bama game. And, putting on my orange blinders, I think we have two more SEC losses, one to BAMA and one to either LSU or SC. That would leave us 5-3 in the conference...optimistic perhaps, but definitely possible.

I can appreciate that you find something worth mentioning, but do it at a UGA site. I don't care if only one-third can read, just do it elsewhere.

I think Vandy and Ole Miss are sure wins for us.

Kentucky has yet to be tested. They've had three non-conference wins, including a close one vs. Louisville, who has only beaten E. Kentucky, by 10. Barring serious injuries to our team, they won't beat us at home.

I see nothing from Georgia. For all we know they could lose 2 more @MSU and @Colorado before we see them. They could have a worse record than us by the end of the season. Maybe Green could make a difference, but I am not impressed.

I think LSU and SC are not automatic losses. I don't think either team is as good as Oregon or Florida. My concern is that they are both away games, which could make a difference (we haven't seen our team on the road yet).

Alabama is really the only game left I think we pretty much have no chance in. Although, they said that last year, and our FG kicking has improved a TON, so never say never...

Sure is a lot of confidence on this board for a team that lost their last two home games by a cumulative score of 79-30. Frankly, I'm concerned about a possible let-down from those two highly-charged games when we have to hit the road. I don't think there are any gimmee's from now on.
