I've heard rumors that Brandon Warren and Gerald Williams will be inserted at DE during obvious passing situations. Will this happen? I haven't heard much about Ben Martin lately; will he be ready to rack up some sacks this year?

I highly doubt we use Warren at DE since we are thin at TE right now. If GW gets in, he will put his hand down in passing situations.

Last I heard about Martin, he wasn't using good pad leverage.

I don't know, but last year I remember wishing it was 3rd and 2 instead of 3 and 10

Sad but true. It seems we have a better chance holding a 3rd and 2 than a 3rd and long. I hate 3rd and long either side of the ball.

3rd and long has seemingly plagued our defense since I was in college. I do like the idea of getting athletes onto the field when they can help. Interesting idea for our coaching staff. . . .

getting off the field on 3rd down period has been a problem for at least 3 years now. the ends will definately have to generate a consistant rush in passing situations and the tackles will have have to clog the lanes in running situations. i think that we will see significant improvement on 3rd down. i am concerned that our d has been terrible at getting 3 and outs, i want to see how we stand with that

Martin has been playing well in practice and will be the top pass rusher on 3rd and long with Ayers and sometimes Brown moving inside. GW will be rushing the passer from the linebacker position ala Little, moving around. He has practiced very little with his hand on the ground. Our DB's will be a huge improvement in coverage also in 3rd down situations. They are still learning, but we are SO MUCH better than last year in coverage, which leads to pressure.
