If you made me choose I'd take 33, this is what you call a problem of prosperity. The good kind of problem coaches want to have.

Crouch played that down field 27 yard pass, on frigging 4th & 1, about as well as it could be played.

We've almost dispelled The Rohan Davey Curse, but that pass would have floated over 33's fingertips the same.

I thought of Crouch while watching some highlights. It seems he came to UT because CJP assured him he'd play him at LBer. He was one of the best running backs in NC in high school and most of his offers were because of that. He's definitely a strong power-runner and could make it to the pros on that basis if he'd just do it. Luckily this counts as a free year. I'm not sure if he can develop a lot further at the LBing position. I hope he can. As of now I'd give 33 a slight edge at LBer because I think he reacts and reads faster.
Mentioning the catch made by Mizzou's TE over Crouch, those things are gonna happen. Crouch was where he was suppose to be. Now a CB or safety may have looked into the receivers eyes and hands and stripped the catch. A perfect pass to a receiver with good hands is hard to defend. UT's LBing unit is developing some depth and quality depth at thatand that's a good thing.

When #27 makes a tackle he sticks them. I expect him to shine next week playing a team that runs a more traditional downhill running offense.

I agree #33 is better at understanding the position and being an all around linebacker right now.

Why do we have to turn everything in to a negative?
That's your perspective/opinion. Being here the last 10 years has established a negative atmosphere for many when you consider UT football and the tradition that accompanies that. I'm in my 60's and been following the Vols a long time and got used them being a national power, presence. Simply put, the past 10 years compared to the previous 40 are the more negative years by a large margin, imho. That's the likely reason a lot of comments reflect a negative attitude on VN. We're about due some positive changes.......keep your fingers crossed. GBO !!!!

33 looks more explosive. His blitzing abilities are apparent, and that will factor into the next game.

27 is doing a great job filling gaps when not making the play.

11 has missed 5 TACKLES, so far this season. He's gotten faster and he's still making a lot of plays and is the captain of that Defense. But I wonder if the loss in weight has effected his leverage. A few times now I've seen him square up and come with bad intentions and the RB just ran through him. Stilll. Henry is balling right now.

30. Hit and miss! He is getting more reps, but he sometimes looks lost. Has trouble finding where the action is. Losses containment way too often.

19 and 9. Kids look good early on.

The title of this thread really had an older guy scared that someone lost their freaking mind.

I'm not sure either is that much better than the other right now. Watched Banks back off a tackle on the sideline yesterday and HT had to clean it up. Both seem to be playing slower than needed

I disagree. I think we have issues at the mike position. HT is solid....the others are works in progress.
You crazy! Our linebackers are playing lights out! There is no drop off between To'o To'o and Banks. Not an obvious drop off with Crouch either. I would just say the defense plays better as a whole when To'o To'o and Banks are on the field.

Banks is playing very well, reminds me of JRM. He's still learning but he versatile, no weaknesses in speed/strength or run/pass.

27 looks a bit slow/lost out there and it could be correlation lacking in causation but the defense seems to perform worse when he's out there.

Given how different they are in build and playing style, I'm surprised that they play the same position.

I'm not a fan of big Hank playing at 225. I think he'd be better at 240 like he was last season. He's already missed as many tackles this season as he did all of last year, I'm surprised that they let him get that light.

27 is playing a bit slow at times because he is still having to think his way through things. He will be fine. He just has to develop. In pass situations, teams are scheming him and so he looks worse. He probably won't be on the field as much on pure passing downs unless we are up a few scores. He's a sophomore. It's normal. He isn't polished but he will be a good player after all is said and done.

Yeah. The next step is for him to continue adding muscle and functional strength. Nick Bolton of Mizzou was 232. But he is 6'0". To'oto'o is 6'2"
If he can keep that new speed and flexibility but at 240....he'd be good to go.

I think the light will come on for Couch at some point during the this season. He should be a asset playing a run first team like georgia. And he is only a sophmore, I think him and banks will improve there. We now have coaches that are capable of coaching players up, especially on D. GBO!!!!!
