3 Star Transfer Players Are Better Than 4 Star Recruits

Vandy just whooped us on their own field, with a limited NIL budget, on both sides of the ball with their 3 star 5th year senior transfer players.

It wasn't just one player, Pavia, that beat us. It wasn't just ome good skill player here or there. We were beat in trenches on both sides of the ball and that should never happen under any circumstances to Vandy.

Heupel only likes to recruit a limited number of transfer players and rely on young, inexperienced recruits. It's time to change up the philosophy. We need experienced proven players to lead the roster. We can't depend so much of our success on young players who are learning on the go.

Maybe the argument should be that 3 star transfer players are better than 4 star recruits. We don't have enough 5 stars, like those of Ohio State and UGA to compare ourselves to them. Afterall, teams like Vandy, Indianna, even Ole Miss, etc, have competed with rosters of higher talent by filling their team with 3 star transfers.

It's the difference between coaches that can develop talent, and coaches that can't.

Heupel and co. are not very good at developing the talent they recruit.

Did Vandy really develop talent, though? Or did they just identify talent in the transfer portal better? The latter is my argument. They have a bunch of experienced upperclassmen that came in from elsewhere.

Tenn has at least done pretty well in the portal. Who has been a big miss? All the big names they counted on has done pretty solid over the years.

3 star players who are hungry, want to win, and get noticed by NFL scouts are better than 5 star “pre-Madonna’s” who’ve been told how great they are their entire life and leverage schools every offseason for more money.

I think the Vandy OC will get plenty of job offers…he’s the one who found/developed Pavia and he runs some well designed plays…

Pavia may not have been a higher rated or recruited player but he definitely has that same game moxie that Bennett had at Georgia…

Good point. Vandy has the oldest team and we have the youngest. This will show up on the lines of scrimmage.

Exactly, they do well in identifying talent. The problem is that they limit the number of players they recruit from the transfer portal as to give priority to players on the roster and incoming recruits.

I think they need to change the philosophy. Instead of stopping at 6-8 transfers, I say bump it up to 15+.

Exactly! Some of those 3 stars are just happy for the opportunity and aren't as concerned with personal accolades. They are the type of players who dream of just finding a way to play special teams on an NFL roster.

Vandy’s O-line had 4 6th year seniors and a 5th year senior.

That is: a bunch of 23-24 year olds playing our d-line.

That is an equalizer, for sure.

It is still embarrassing any time we lose to Vandy.

Well our players dropped passes and their players caught them and kept drives alive. Their qb refused to lose and used both his legs and arm while our defense missed tackles and let him move the ball at will. Some of it is talent, and some is coaches not getting players ready for prime time
