Ok - fighting the covid and a little bored so chew on this.

First - while I never supported it - I did play on a high school team that basically passed it around the parameter until
the force was with someone and they fired up a long one.

1. One thing that I can attest to is that there are some people that are great 3 point shooters - no matter the situation and no matter the coverage - hand in the face or not -
they are going to make their share.

2. There are others that given open shots - passive d - small guards without much in the way of hands in their face or being contested - these guys are going to kill it from 3 and shoot a crazy high percentage.

3. There are still others that while they shoot a great percentage under category 2 above - when tightly contested with a hand in their face - their 3 pt. percentage drops dramatically when
they are not able to set themselves, prepare, have a clean follow threw, etc.

Observations:

Currently in SEC play we have Vescovi - at 40 % from 3 - so we will ignore him.

After that, what guards do we rely on since our plan and model is molded around 3 point shooting.

You pick the shooter we should be going to for 3's.

We have Chandler at .143
or Zeigler at .231
or James at .211
Or Bailey at .143

Collectively those guys are 19.5 percent from 3.

Not a huge jump to Powell at .286
or Olivier at .286 but still an improvement.

Just an observation -

Other observations - Fulky has been non - existent in SEC play - likely from covid - his 4 for 8 in SEC free throws tells me he is even struggling to get enough energy to get his free throws up there.

Leading rebounders -

Uros - 19
Olivier - 18
Santi - 17
James -14

Chandler is 8/13 when not shooting 3's.

James can play great defense, pass and rebound - it appears he can't consistently shoot the 3. He could not shoot the 3 last season either. Should someone consider moving him back to the 4?

Chandler's and Zeigler's assist to turnover ratios are about 1 to 1 -- not that great when weighed against Vescovi's almost 3 to 1 assist to turnover percentage against the same competition - not that great really under any circumstance for your pgs.

All just food for thought - and submitted for your consideration - here on this segment of the VOL 3-point shooting "twilight zone."

Feel free to opine.

Typical Barnes team. He beats them down , takes them out when they miss a shot or make a mistake ( unless your last name is James), and then they play scared. This team looked great the first couple of weeks of the season and now look like a mid to lower tier SEC team

Barnes takes players out who don’t shoot. Powell.

Glad to hear the COVID only has you bored, Fillfulmer. You've been blessed with natural immunity now.

Appreciate you putting together those stats.

I'd just been wondering what our team median 3-point percentage for this season looks like graphed, and the same for each game's hottest 3-point shooter. I wonder how common it is this season for teams to have bad or good shooting nights from all their players.

The Lady Vols seem to have had one or two hot shooters each game this season, but it's been different people on different nights. I wonder which phenomena is more common?

Well it certainly makes it super easy to defend if you have one guy shooting 40 percent and everyone else shooting 19 percent.
I would be backing off the point guards, Jjj and Bailey - 3 of the 4 take time to launch and Jjj - doesn’t really matter.
Jjj’s best assets are negated playing outside - somewhat of a conundrum.
I think we need more people and ball movement and more inside out.
It’s telling when so few of our 3’s are in the cylinder and just slightly off. Honestly there are quite a few bricks that are wide right and long, etc.
We probably need better spacing. Our 3 pt guys can’t hit unless they are wide open - and even then ….
It will be interesting for sure.
Fulky getting covid every other week also doesn’t help.
So we have a very weak inside game and a very weak outside game.
Everything needs to get better.

3 Pt green-light: Vescovi, Powell, ON, Chandler
3 Pt yellow-light (good looks, good game situation): Ziggy, Quentin, Mashack
3 Pt red-light (only in emergencies, dire situations): JJJ, Fulky, Uros, BHH, Aidoo, Bailey (three season trend: .398, .338, .217)

Team is too soft around the rim and with drives. Interior goal should be aggression to the rim, draw contact and force the officials to not call the contact. JJJ should never jack a 3 when a drive is an option for him.

I think James has more open 3's because D's know of his low % and its more efficient to leave him open and let him shoot and just double one of the other guys. Seems to be working well.

Vescovi, Powell, eigler and Chandler should be the 3 point shot specialists.

Bailey and James should be shooting mid range jumpers and driving to the basket.

Fulkerson, Nkamhoua, Plavsic and Huntley-Hatfield should be living in the paint.

That would be my shot distribution plan for this team.
