Take the hd off, climb up on top your house with the remaining console, now throw it as far as you can. Climb down & go purchase a new one.
If I were to get a new model, how do I transfer my game progress on the HD?
This works and even my dumb caveman ass can do itThey are fairly easy to fix with about 8 bucks worth of materials. Rosen posted a tutorial here to fix it http://www.volnation.com/forum/gaming/63570-xbox360-obituaries-aka-3rrod-2.html
I have one I fixed in 2010 with this method that still works today.
1. Does the heatsink repair work if the RROD appears as soon as it's turned on? It started that way and has been consistent.
YES
2. If I try to fix it, where do I buy thermal paste?
Any computer store or online at Newegg or other places like that. I would recommend articsilver
3. If I don't, where do I get one of these handy new "transfer cables?"
You guys may find it unbelievable, but I tried the "towel trick" (as I couldn't justify the time and $ spent to try to open the bastage up) and IT WORKED! I guess it melts the solder back into place? Who knows how long it will last, but I'm glad I didn't burn the house down!
