There are 3 coaches that would be a considerable upgrade that are within reach money-wise. Mike Norvell makes less than 2 million , we could double that. James Franklin has a cheap buyout and Bobby Petrino is reportedly not happy at Louisville. I dont believe that Gruden would give up his cushy, well-paid TV gig to come into the pressure cooker world of SEC coaching. Also, I cant see Chip Kelly in Knoxville, because of his personality. Any one of the first 3 would be a giant improvement, although BP does have baggage.

How is Norvell any more of a sure thing than Butch was at his career stage? Why in the world would Franklin leave Penn State? And why in the world would anyone want that sleaze bag Petrino associated with UT football?

Edit to say that I think Franklin would be an awesome get, but don't see it as possible.

OMG how many times are you guys gonna bring up Franklin?!?...He will never and I mean NEVER coach at UT!!..He is a Penn St guy and will retire there if they give him the chance....Norvell hasn't proven anything, He is winning with Fuentes players.

Norvell or Frost? I think Tiger High has even exceeded under Norvell what they had did w/ Fuente. Norvell heck of a lot cheaper and we don't have to worry about him flying the coup to Nebraska.

I think you are right about him not coming but I sometimes laugh thinking if we had these forums back in the day how many would have said the same thing about majors. lol

Well, we know Butch cant do it- Petrino has won everywhere he has been in college- Franklin is the ideal pick- but he is from Pa. The best thing is his cheap BO- could use savings to pay him to change. Norvell is not a sure winner, its all about chance.

Majors is a Tennessee man so everyone here would be looking at him like they do Gruden right now.

Speaking of cushy ESPN jobs. There was a story out last week that ESPN is weighing their options on bringing back MNF.
Probably BS article, but with declining ratings and a 1.9 billion dollar per year contract anything is possible.

Louisville is in last place in their division with the defending Heisman winner at quarterback. I wish everyone would get over their crush on Petrino.

If we are considering a coaches personality over their ability then we're boned.

Kelly has to be a serious option at this point.

Only Vol fans worry about a proven winner’s “PERSONALITY”....unlike Alabama that cares about winning championships with an epic a-hole jerk...I’m just saying:dunno: This fan base’s priorities are epically f’d up.
