Read a GO VOLS EXTRA article tonight, and I think
it said Bryce Brown, Wes Brown and Dan Williams have recently had concussions in prep for the bowl game. WTF? Are they trying to kill each other?

Let's hope CLK's emphasis on physicality takes a backseat to his discipline on this one. Concussions are no joke, as the NFL is currently figuring out. Sit them down from contact activities until they are asymptomatic. Let's make sure the injured players aren't jeopardizing their long-term health to make a few, ultimately meaningless, extra practices.

I have been a fan of "physical" practices. I am still a fan of going hard in practice for the reg season. We have had a month to fight it out, its time to put food on the table and stop the head to head battles. Just my thoughts..........

He's probably trying to keep them in game shape. A month is a long time to take off and then play the biggest game of the year. You lose the reaction and toughness required to play at full speed. That's why some teams look soft when they play their bowl games.

I, for one, am glad that the coaching staff has Vol Nation to make sure they know how to conduct a practice session.

But I thought Coach Kiffin had gone soft and was basically throwing the bowl game when he cancelled practice. (sarcasm)

I wonder how serious the injuries were. I would imagine a severe concussion would put someone out for a few weeks. I wonder if any of them will be out for the bowl game?

I am all for coach kiffin and I have faith that he knows what he is doing and obviously he's the one making the big bucks and knows far more than I do. I would never dispute that but I have at times questioned the extremely physical practices so much. i know in the summer with 2 adays and those practices months before the season you have to be physical so you can see who is for real and who is not but they were still going at it full speed balls to the wall right up to game week and i think most teams enter the season the most healthy they will ever be besides the bowl game and i feel like we started the season beat up like mid season form. i've never seen so many guys hurt "before" the first game and i think it cost us early. they started clicking when they finally got most of the guys back that were hurt in the preseason. Its just my opinion but it sounded like they were doing it again for the bowl. I know you have to practice full speed to play full speed but I was really hoping to play VT with a full deck and try to make a statement with a big win over a ranked team. we can't do that if we're beating the hell out of each other a little over a week from game day. but like I said he knows more than I thats why this is a message board. fans can give their opinion no matter how wrong or right they may be.

Its funny how any criticism of Kiffin gets turned into blasphemy! There's no doubt Lane knows what he's doing, and I'm a supporter. BUT--three concussions in practice are a bit much.

I'm not attacking Kiffin--I just wish he would find a happy medium between full speed ahead and full speed with head injuries.

What is funny is how people can not pick up on sarcasm.

If I remember correctly, when TN played Nebraska (and got drilled) they made a deal about how Nebraska was practicing full out while UT was limiting practice. As a coach you're in a no win situation. If you practice too hard and someone gets hurt your toast. On the other hand, if you ease up and get drilled your toast for that too. So you just have to do what you think is best. IMO
