3 Coaches

These are the 3 best coaches for the Tennesee job if it came open this year. All of these coaches are hard workers, program builders, and proven winners. They have no previous baggage. They get the best out of what they got to work with. They don't have top 10 or 15 recruiting classes, they have players with chips on their shoulders that love the jersey they put on and get the most out of them.

Matt Campbell (Iowa St.)
Luke Fickell (Cincinnati)
Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina)

You don’t have any faith in the process with Pruitt but you can totally get behind giving Campbell 4-5 years?
You really want another Cincy coach?
Sure Coastal had a good season and all but without Covid nobody knows who Chadwell is.

What a joke. Only one of those guys has won big in the sec and calls tn his dream job. It’s freeze or bust
Stop saying dream job. There is no proof he said that and it sounds terrible...like forever home.

Freeze - (59-38) without violations. (32-38) with violations. He never finished first in the SEC west. Only had "1" 2nd place finish in SEC west. Rest of it was 3rd, (2) 5th, and a 7th place finish. He went to Ole Miss from a "Sun Belt" school Arkansas St. after 1 year. He is at Liberty for a reason and that's to keep him out of trouble at the Baptist school. He sure is a homerun hire!

Better stay away from Falwell’s wife. It’s like sending a cocaine addict to a crack house for rehab.

Guys stop getting yourselves all worked up about replacing Pruitt. Fulmer has already said this year is a free pass. He is not going anywhere for the time being. Let's move on.
It doesn't have anything to do with getting worked up until he is fired how ever long that may be this is all we are going too talk about. Pruitt has done lost his way around here and all he is doing is taking up space until the next guy is hired. Sorry that is just the way it works doesn't matter what happens.

I agree that the Freeze obsession is weird. Career 60% win percentage and his only conference title was, I think, one year with a Sun Belt team. Aside from a few big upsets he's largely middle of the road, and yet somehow he's the second coming or some nonsense.

The only real, bona fide, guaranteed game changer out there is Urban Meyer, and good luck (1) getting him interested and (2) outspending Texas if he is.

So IF and yes that is a BIG IF he turns things around next year and we are 10-2 you still want him fired?

I don’t think Fulmer has the final say. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if PF had warm pants as well.

No but until that happens and that is a huge IF this is the way it is going to be. You can't 5-7 to 8-5 to 2-7 at a place like Tennessee and not expects extreme criticism.

This list changes every year. And the point of view of the Coaches on the lists changes every year too

Thanks, but no thanks. Think I'd have to pass on all three. Reminds me of when Mullen went fishing and we didn't bait our hook. Big fish want bait. Lil fish just get their names listed with Dooley, Jones, n' Pruitt! We'll offer nice bait when hell FREEZES over!

None of those 3 are home run, blank check hires. I would hope someone like Campbell or even Fickell would be the second tier coaches that we look at if the “whale” of the search said no

There are no home run blank check hires

There are plenty. Everyone knows Tennessee doesn’t open the checkbook. Since we won’t do it, we always get the usual suspects for coaching hires.

The one coach I would offer blank check to is Lincoln Riley and make him say no to see if he’d leave the Big 12 for SEC.

we won’t know who the homerun hire is until we open the checkbook.

Hell the current “whale” hire that is currently jobless is Urban Meyer and Texas is making a move on him.

Throw $50M, a yacht, and guaranteed immortal salvation at Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer. Stoops first. Force them to say no to being the highest paid coach in football (not just college football--football). Sell Behr's house if needed to come up with the cash. I heard he lives in a mansion; it ought to cover it.

If neither of those fellas take the deal, stick with what we got in hopes Pruitt learns how to head coach in the next 12 months.

If they say no, and Pruitt still doesn't know what he's doing at that point, THEN consider going for a repeat of the Dooley-Jones-Pruitt bargain shelf hires. Because that's basically what you're suggesting, OP.

And every time you see one of the dumb arses who helped get Fulmer canned in 2008, kick them in the butt. Only fools throw away a championship-winning coach, even if he's having a down phase.
