These are the 3 best coaches for the Tennesee job if it came open this year. All of these coaches are hard workers, program builders, and proven winners. They have no previous baggage. They get the best out of what they got to work with. They don't have top 10 or 15 recruiting classes, they have players with chips on their shoulders that love the jersey they put on and get the most out of them.

Matt Campbell (Iowa St.)
Luke Fickell (Cincinnati)
Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina)

Replace Freeze with Chadwell

None of those 3 are home run, blank check hires. I would hope someone like Campbell or even Fickell would be the second tier coaches that we look at if the “whale” of the search said no

We're not the same Tennessee anymore. Not sure we get a homerun hire

What a joke. Only one of those guys has won big in the sec and calls tn his dream job. It’s freeze or bust

Freeze hasn’t won big in the SEC. he’s beaten Saban twice only to choke away the driver’s seat in the SEC west both times. I do think he would be better here than Ole Miss given recruiting (legal recruiting) and resources.

But the goal should be to win divisions and conference titles. The “Hugh has won big in the SEC” is very hyped because of 2 wins he had vs Bama and Saban.

The sweet spot for me with Freeze is that he does hold Tennessee as “a dream job”

Freeze - (59-38) without violations. (32-38) with violations. He never finished first in the SEC west. Only had "1" 2nd place finish in SEC west. Rest of it was 3rd, (2) 5th, and a 7th place finish. He went to Ole Miss from a "Sun Belt" school Arkansas St. after 1 year. He is at Liberty for a reason and that's to keep him out of trouble at the Baptist school. He sure is a homerun hire!

The benefit of Freeze is he would be a cheap hire compared to his demand. With that “asset” for us, I think we tell him he can have blank check to hire any staff he wants.

None of those are what those, along with Freeze, is what I would consider top-tier coaches.

The top tier coaches in college football are Saban, Dabo, Day (just because it is Ohio St), Riley (just because it is Oklahoma), Urban. Unless you are in the National Championship or playoffs year in and year out then you aint top tier. Plus Fulmer and the University are not going to empty the pockets on a coach, no matter who. Keep dreaming.

Matt Campbell, I doubt will leave.

Chadwell is a great coach, let’s see what his program looks like in a few years. The way we screw hires up I’m sure it will be open.

Fickell is waiting for something he wants to become available. I think he’s a solid coach and will win wherever he goes.

Freeze is proven and we’ve fiddle-dicked around hugging guys who needed to learn on the job for the last 12 years. Freeze is where we need to go at this time and at this point in our 20 year rebuild.

Would kill to see us offer Riley the highest coaching salary in the country just to see if he would take it. Worst case he says no and OU has to really fork up money
