I have been screaming for UT to spread the field since the oregon game. We don't have the personell to run power football all day. The offense was a good mix this week. I also wish that they were trying to throw to a TE over the middle more and force the defense to cover the middle so outs and go routes would be more open. I have been a little shocked at the play calling this year and I know a lot has to do with execution. All in all I love that we are spreading the field instead of running and throwing out of the "I" all day. Just an opinion..would like to here yours. GO VOLS!

Shoot. . . Im ecstatic about it. Our receivers are too good to not be doing it! I have been worried about if we dont get da'rick and hunter involved we could lose them but with this new spread. . . Im pumped :) We have probably the best young receiver core in the nation. Justin Hunter, Zach Rogers, Da'Rick Rogers, Milton, and great veterans with jones and moore.

I cant wait to see how our young receivers perform next year with one year under their belt and another off season to improve ;) We're in good shape guys.

Hard to go 3 and 4 wide, with a bad offensive line. Simms is already getting sacked constantly, take another blocker out of there and we are really in trouble.

The same goes for everyone calling for us to run screen passes. This line is having trouble blocking one on one the guy in front of them, and you want them to now pull and try to block people in the open field. Baby steps gentlemen. Really hard to run good screen passes with young (really young) offensive lineman.

About the only silver lining I see is next year's offense.

I wish they would move Simms out of the pocket more often. He's athletic and it would take some pressure off the Oline.

Pardon me for asking this, and I have watched or listened to every game this year. Has Milton played or had any balls thrown to him?

I believe one of the times he got flushed out of the pocket and made a great completion down field this past weekend one of our young OL got flagged for ineligable man down field. It all comes back to the inexperience at the line.

Interesting, because there were plenty of times I was wanting to see us in the I. I don't think we were in the I ten times all game. 2nd and 2 on our last offensive series would have been a perfect time.

Also, not a fan of the five wide on first down.

I'd love to see five-wide in first down every now and then. Better than running the exact same plays.

Ran it out of the I 10 times or ran it 10 times total?

Off topic, I found it odd that we ran the sweep with Denarius Moore 3 times (one was called back for a false start but Moore already had the ball)

Ran it out of the I, should have been more clear.

Yeah, blocking is obviously the strength of this OL but I doubt we could sustain that tempo all game against LSU.

I do have to say we're doing better (still not great or consistent) against good front-4s and front-7s than we seemed to be doing last year. Stone and Fulton seem to be improving week-to-week.

Yes I agree the line stinks but if you spread the field linbackers have to go cover receivers and if they don't you can hit short passes for decent little gains. If you have 5 down lineman and four wide it leaves one linebacker at the LOS. your chances are better to cover blocks spreading the field. they could bring in safeties to blitz also but still leaves one on one coverage and UT showed that they are allowed to audible...lol!

Hey guys, I coach the Offensive Line for a High School with a potent offense. In all honesty its incredible how well a few of our young O-line man have done in one on one situations. Freshman should not physically be able to compete one on one against SEC defensive lineman. The fact that our biggest problem in protection is blitz pick-up is a good thing. The mental side of the game is fixed by repetitions, film study, and live game experience. When you have mental mastery of your assignments you play at a higher physical level. The upside to our O-Line is very good.
