If the common wisdom is it takes time to convert to a "3-4"

Why pick this year to change?

We have probably the most potent offense ever at UT and we were likely to lose much of that offense next year.

This offense with an average UT defense is an East winner or contender at the very least.

Why not make big changes next year?

Because Dooley invisioned an attacking defense that creates turnovers and thought our personel fit the system.

If Wilcox was leaving anyway, what were Dooley's options?

I can probably think of a lot that don't give up 475 yrds a game..

Let's drop all this "it takes time" nonsense. It doesn't take time--it takes good players, playing hard. It's not the system--it's the players and, also, coaching.

This. And I guarantee you Sal didn't take a 1 year job. He was guaranteed 3 years. What does that tell you about Dooley's job?

It does take time to change schemes. You just hope it won't be quite this ugly during that time.

We could have run the double offense and cut out the defense all together.

Bring on our own offense, every time the opposing offense takes the field. Line up nose to nose, and take our own snaps.

But I guess Dooley just isn't that creative.

GaVol here's is my question to you>>>>

When could we ever expect an offense this good again?

If I'm not mistaken, CP will be here next year. Bray might as well. Ad Pig, Bowles and Croom, plus a big time RB (hopefully). If most of our OL stays (only senior is Dallas, I believe) we could be as good next year.

The only thing I can figure is that Dooley, Sal and company have been guaranteed a certain number of years to make the changeover. Still it was foolish to change so soon when we are in desperate need of a big season to turn things around.

Depends on how good this recruiting class turns out IMO... Could be very good for years to come with additions of Green, North, Rumph, and the big uglies...

Randy Shannon. Everett Withers (pretty sure he was available at the time). Tyrone Nix. Successful SEC DC experience....handled business against Georgia Tech a few weeks ago....coaching for MTSU, nonetheless.

Add in a top rb and we might be better.
