Practically every college football coach working in the modern era has said at least once — and usually with some frequency — that they don’t believe in the ranking systems of analysts from sites such as 247Sports. They say have their own version of a ranking system, and that it doesn’t always dovetail with the ranking systems of external analysts.

Hall is one example of that. And he’s a good example.

Tennessee’s coaches were thrilled to take the big Virginia native’s commitment despite a modest recruiting ranking. They thought they’d stolen a really good, under-the-radar prospect.

It’s tough to argue with them at the moment.

Very under the radar, who performed well, type of player. On a side note, I'm watching a game with my wife last season and she sees Chance Hall on the field and says that's my favorite player. I'm really shocked at this statement because he plays OL, is a true freshman and she's not a big VOLS fan on her own accord except for my influence. So I'm curious and I ask why is he your favorite player... She says because he's a really good kid. Now, I'm even more confused. However she tells me she follows him on Instagram and that he went to his prom with a girl who has downs or a something similar. She says he always post photos of them together and that he seems like a good kid.

So yeah, a feel good story.

I was sold on Chance being a good player last year during the UGA game when he was man handling UGA's D LINE.

Lot of fatalistic talk on this board about him being jettisoned from his class due to the Achilles. Really glad our coach doesn't hear us or bother listening. :)

That's really good to hear, Drew. Thanks for the insights from your discerning bride. :hi:

Both Chance Hall and Jack Jones stepped in last year and played very well. They have that mean streak the OL has been missing for years.

Yes. Don't be surprised if they end up being ALL-SEC or more before they leave here.

Agreed. They held their own last year against Alabama for the majority of the game and I don't think anybody will disagree that Alabama was probably the best defensive line we seen last year.

When I heard Hall had torn his achilles tendon. I feared his recovery would require he red shirt. My hat tips to the surgeon who did the repair, the physical therapists who saw to the rehab, and to Chance Hall. Even with the best of care, to recover in that time frame took dedication and guts. And from everything I hear, he is one of the most humble and pleasant guys you will ever meet. Glad we have him.
