2nd choice

Strong, Peterson, Patterson. I'm in the minority but I do not want Gruden! Grudens success hinged on a team that was already built, which he later destroyed.

All the folks who want Petrino....you are only looking at what he did BEFORE his scandal/firing. If over half of the fanbase doesn't want to touch him with a ten foot pole, you can rest assured that MANY, MANY recruits parents will feel the same way. If he had a bad reputation before all of this...he confirmed it with his conduct that subsequently got him fired. Coaches in the SEC will be able to use that against us for years and years. Forget it. We're not that desperate.

I would think Patterson would be the AD's No.2. Strong No.3.

He is one more public emotional apology away from forgiveness. If he does it at an altar he will be embraced by the masses. America is about second chances!!!

Saw that Mr SEC thinks Petrino is our second choice, adn that's who we will get. I'd nto like that at all. I'd rather hire Kirby Smart than Petrino, and I'm very anti CKS.
He makes Lane Kiffin look moral and loyal.

Who built the early 2000's Raiders?

Is Jeff Fisher a bad coach because the Titans went downhill? It was the EXACT same story with Gruden. In the NFL, things are not completely in your control as coach. You have to play with the hand you are dealt.

Interesting comments from someone who started a thread advocating Jim Tressel.

We've already been over this. His time in Oakland doesn't count, because the statute of limitations has expired, or recruits are too young, or something like that.

I can tell you who I would not support.

Petrino.

Exactly. Just cannot understand the Petrino love. His best teams got beat by Alabama as bad as our worse teams. His teams dont play D, he is pretty much disliked with anybody he has ever worked with. He will be not be able to recruit anymore at a level he needs to here. My 2nd choice would be Del Rio or Strong. We gotta get a defensive minded coach.

I would be curious what a poll would show on here about supporting a Bobby P hire. Someone that knows how to start one please do it.

Just a guess but a little under half would like it

After thinking hard about possible other candidates, it could be a complete disappointment or bust if Gruden doesn't come now. He fits better than anyone out there. All other names listed seem disappointing compared to him.

I think it should be well under 50 but some are just looking at his offensive production but plays no defense and very doubtful many Mom's are going to listen to his BS in her living room. I cant see him recruiting at a high enough level to win conference titles. We can do so much better and dont need another DD, from the standpoint of people in the AD and offices hating to work with him and not being able to stand him. Just dont see any of the decision makers going for a Petrino hire.

I agree, but if I was forced to pick a cpl guys Del Rio and Strong would be my top 2. Both are defensive minded guys and Del Rio's NFL track record would help him in recruiting and Strong is a very good Coach that recruit very well at UT I believe..

I like Bob Stoops, but I honestly doubt see him being on the radar or leaving Norman. I say we go after Patterson again.
