It shouldn't if he is as good as some make him out to be.

If Mullen had been hired or Kiffin or Gruden, most on here would be expecting great things the first year.

Most on here would be delusional. Most great coaches don't explode until year 2.

Coaching has everything to do with that. Scott Frost showed that from going 0-12 to 13-0 in 2 years. That's with recruiting classes ranked in the 50s or lower.

Scott Frost also didn't coach in the SEC. The players we had were poorly coached for awhile now. Its kinda like losing weight. It's going to take years to go from a 600 pounder to a 200 pounder.

If we shock a team or two, that takes us to 10 or 11 wins. The other 9 won't be shocked when we put a smack down in them. That's the one thing that they will be familiar with, what it feels like to get beat by the Vols(It will be new to WVU.)

Bring on 2018 schedule. I'm glad we have time to keep improving.

It would be nice to get a pass on so many injuries.

Go Vols!
Lol

West Virgina is to one dimensional going against a Pruitt coached defense.

Their defense is tricky but we should be able to run. We beat West Virgina....

Florida has NO QB..
And no depth.

Auburn, Bama, and UGA are sure losses. But the other 9 are winnable.

Butch is gone dude....

Lol....

West Virginia averaged over 300 passing and 150 rushing...one dimensional...lol

Do we have a qb....and depth?

Pruitt started this thread?.

Comprehension.

Here's the way I comprehended it.

Fall practice starts August 3rd. 27-30 that weren't available during spring practice will be available to start fall practice.

I mean, season doesn't start until September 1st, so...they can't "start" a game in August.

What am I missing?

Wouldn’t it be grand if we shut Georgia up and beat them in a close game.

Obviously I'll take whatever we can get, but for chits and giggles. I'd choose losing to them and smashing Florida in the damn mouth than the other way around.

Not a lot of talk about special teams. I would bet some of those that didn’t play in the spring game might find their way onto the special teams. And then some of those prove they want to win, hit hard, don’t screw up, and compete for more playing time with the starters.

In football it’s about GAINING weight...which is rapidly easier. :)

Logic.

Not you, Behr. AllVol. You showed it to him.

p.s. So far, we've covered Math, English, Comprehension, and Logic. Next up: philosophy, rhetoric, or recess.

I'll take a shot at philosophy. If allvol simultaneously won the lottery and watched UT win a natty in the woods, would you still hear him complain?

Not my best work, but hey... I tried.

Maybe to get ready on offense, they could study Bama's tendencies on defense over the last season or two, and like wise watch our new offensive coach's past for his likes and by the way, paying attention to what Bama has done on offense my give insights to our game plans early on...

As long as they are watching film of other teams to prepare for us we have the advantage.

We get to deep dive into what they have done and from what I've heard from CJP our defense will force the issue by formation, blitz and stunt packages.

I expect CJP&S will creative with the game plan along with dialing up plays specific for down and distance for both sides of the ball.

Pruitt started this thread?.

Comprehension.

You are the only one in this thread with enough comprehension to read the title and think the OP was saying 27-30 players are starters on August 3. There is no game on that date and only 22 can start, so everyone's inferior comprehension lead us to think that OP was talking about starting fall camp, which happens to start on that date. What a coincidence. If only we had the level of comprehension that you, and you alone, have obtained.

He may not have coached in the SEC but he beat Auburn with developed players, not top ranked recruiting.

Yeah, but he also beat an Auburn team that clearly didn't show up at that bowl to play hard and win. Like several other 2017 SEC teams, they went bowling for the swag and the parties.

I think he's a good coach, but that lethargic Auburn team is his only notable win last season. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good season, but after Auburn, there was 3-9 UNC. Oh, and 5-7 Pitt. And then a lot of G5 teams.

So yeah, let's see how he does in the Power 5.

No need to apologize, I think you're wrong. If Pruitt and his staff are anywhere close to what we hope, there is enough talent there to slow your roll, or at least switch it to something else.

All I heard for the better part of 3 years from "some of us" around here was how bad Butch sucked. How he was a pretty damn good recruiter, but couldn't teach a drunk how to fall down.

Now he's gone and some of the "some of us" aren't saying "let's see what Pruitt and his staff can do", its " we have NO talent, we gone suck, you're gone be bigly disappoint.... "

With all the suck headed our way, I'm amazed at you guys that aren't gonna be disappointed.

What teams would it "shock" to lose to us?

Not that many.

Sure they would be disappointed for not taking advantage of their chance to beat us, but they wouldn't be shocked.

Maybe WVU would be shocked. They are at the greatest disadvantage of everyone on our schedule. There's no game film other than the O&W game for them to study in preparing for us., we know what they will be doing and can develop a game plan to maximize our strengths and counter their's

We showed about every look in the book on offense and defense. They all have a lot to prepare for this year when facing us. No team will be able to bum rush us based off formation, like they were able to when Butch was here.

Every team on our schedule except UTEP and ETSU would be shocked to lose to us. Think about it. Alabama and Georgia have made us look like Pop Warner teams. Muschamp owns us. Kentucky beat us. Vandy has handed us our azz the past 2 years. Auburn is much better than we are. WVU has a great offense with a Heisman QB. Missouri killed us. And Florida? Well we couldnt beat them whne they had Donkey teeth and a terrible team.
