Tony hasn’t ever really done the fast guy bats first thing, it’s mostly been your best pure hitter. I think he has ford lead off with abernathy getting out around 8 or 9

The closest he’s ever had to Jay Abernathy is Seth Stephenson and he batted 9th if I recall. So you’re probably correct.

Could definitely see Jay batting towards the bottom of the lineup as a faux leadoff guy.

But the other thing Tony has historically loved to do is alternate left and right handed hitters. I think there’s going to be 5 lefty’s and 4 righty’s in the lineup when it’s all said and done which means one of the left handed hitters is gonna have to hit high up in the order

He kind of broke that this year but it was by necessity more than anything

Just curious, what makes you lean Blanco over Arvidson in the rotation? Do you like Arvy in the versatile role like Snead or think Blanco is the better pitcher?

Just know someone will light it up this fall and not be able to hit at all this spring. Has happened for various reasons for 6 straight years.
Why do you think this happens?? Maybe the pitchers aren’t dealing their best stuff in the fall??

I am always worried when our pitching gets lit up in the fall but it seems to always work out.

I have never figured it out completely. I will give the ones I know in no particular order but if you look back you guys can probably piece it together. 2 were hurt at the end of fall or early spring. 1 did not do what he was supposed to do after fall ball was over and kinda took a break and could not recover from it. 1 Just went cold. Could not hit in practice or games and was given multiple chances but just could not hit and went like 0-50 in the spring. I think it also is sometimes like a streak and when you are in a streak you want to hit all the time so you don't lose it. And the opposite is when you go in a slump you are almost not wanting to hit at all and hope it goes away.
I have not seen it is pitching as much but there have been some who have had great falls and then could not handle the stress of games. There is a huge difference between pitching against your teammates in the fall and throwing in real games, especially SEC games, in the spring. Some just cannot handle the pressure from the outside and inside. I think you can see the guys as freshmen who have played at a high level in travel versus those who have not. It is one thing to have the stuff but another to control it in high pressure situations. And there is a huge difference in the levels of travel/showcase out there for HS players. When you play the best for several summers in HS, it is no different when you get to college.

Not inside knowledge on that one, simply a guess based on how Tony and Frank have acted in the past.

They typically love having a dude in the pen that on the first game of any weekend where the starter gets run early they can go to settle in and give length/a chance to win that game while saving the staff for the rest of the weekend. And if that game doesn’t come, you can use them as a closer, potentially twice. It’s what they did with Snead last year when headed into the year they definitely thought he was one of their 3 best guys.

Having said that I would also not be shocked at all if Arvidson is a starter either

I can't see Levi at #2 if he strikes out at last year's rate. He struck out 36% of his SEC and 40% of postseason ABs. That's high for a top of the lineup guy. Maybe he makes progress in the fall and preseason, but if not, I don't see it. JMHO
