247 rankings

You got that backwards. They are usually right - just look at the teams that made the playoffs the last 4 years then go look at their recruiting rankings
Late to respond, but this can go 2 ways. Its not rocket science that good programs get good players. If they rank kids by where they go to school the services are severely flawed.

In case you haven’t been paying attention stars matter a lot when we get a 4/5 star and they don’t matter at all when we get a 3 star.

I look at offer lists over rankings but stars usually reflect the quality of the offer list (not in all cases but in most). We are beating UGA, FL, Clem, Bama for recruits which is a good sign that we are on the right track

Offer lists? Commitable offers? hows anyone to know if committable or not

  • I don't think the RATIO of blue chips is really what's critical. What you want is FLOOR of at least 10-12 blue chips each year. Whether that represents 40, 50, or 60% of your class is secondary. Adding some extra 3-star depth and lottery chips is probably better, even if it drops the ratio below 50%.

  • Finally, the lowest rankings of this years class are much higher than prior years. Everyone thus far is in the top 800 nationwide, which has not happened for the past several years. Means better depth and/or better lottery ticket chances.

Any way you slice it, this class looks nice. High ceiling, high floor, with an early buzz that keeps us competitive among the uncommitted marquee players.

I'd say the worst evaluators of talent is VN as a whole. I'm pretty sure every commit from the last decade has had a thread about them filled with "BOOM" posts, gifs and memes. A few years later (after ANOTHER coaching change) we see posts like, "Coach (Dooley, Jones, or Pruitt) can't expect to win with the players that crappy coach (Kiffin, Dooley, or Jones) left him....the same players with BOOMs.

I think each coach wants a certain "style" of player to fit their needs. The question becomes will that "style" win in the SEC? I think Pruitt saw UT as too small and too slow to compete with UGA, UF, and Bama on an annual basis even though there are/were some talented players left by the previous staff....just not enough to compete with the top teams in the SEC. That seems to be changing, no matter where the rankings land.

Star humpers kill me.

Just let Pruitt evaluate his own players and offer who he wants and let’s judge him on the field. Go back to the recruiting forum and rub one out to the stars.

Pay close attention to Clemson commit Bubba Chandler. He is a 3 star and rated in the 500's. Wouldn't be surprised if he get a bump or two.

Bubba Chandler was ignored by the recruiting services because he had made it clear he was playing baseball at the next level, not football. The first indication that he was even considering playing CFB was when he announced a commitment to Clemson as a QB.

I would agree with you if it wasn’t for almost every single 5* player within a 9 hour radius of Knoxville holding an offer from UT. It’s clear that these are players that Pruitt wants but can’t get. That means he isn’t getting everyone he wants. That means he is having to take some guys that he wanted less to fill positions

I would say nearly every coach is in the same position....you have to have a plan B & C.
