247: Pruitt Contemplating Change at QB

I think he committed so fully to JG and sympathizes with him so much that he just wasn't willing to give up.

You cannot simultaneously tolerate much less support starting JG and talk about being aggressive on O. Those are mutually exclusive things. On his very, very best day... risks and aggression are not in him. IMHO, his picks are a direct function of trying to make him play more aggressive and faster.

I don't think he did make the right call. There were issues that UT was able to cover and compensate for. JG was terrible throwing the ball beyond 10 yards. UGA just "broke the code".... and UK used the same idea.
Well obviously in hindsight it was the disastrous call, but we were game managing it into a 2-0 record going into halftime at No.3 Georgia. Thats all I was saying.

I truly believe though, from here on out if we get Maurer and Bailey the majority of the work, the QB position will be in a much better spot than it was at the beginning of the year. I won't be shocked if we struggle, but I also wouldn't be shocked if Maurer has a lot of good plays based off of how well he played at times last year.

I would struggle but could accept a 3 or 4 win season if the rest of the year were used to establish the '21 QB and play/coach up the young guys who will need to play.

I buy Pruitt's argument that Covid has hurt them more than most. That seems to be true. That makes playing for the future all the more relevant IMO.

A little late this year... hit me up again next August. Family has to come first though. My bro in law is coming in from SC. Both of my sons are going to hunt. I have 3 good stands up but have more work to do. I have 80 acres surrounded by other fields, pasture, and brush. The closest house is a mile or more. My farm is 18 acres active corn/beans, 24 acres CRP, and the rest in a creek bed and brush. We're set up well to hunt about 2/3's of it.

Hunting shows feature the county my farm is in often.
Sounds good. If you need any help doing anything let me know

Do you bow hunt? None of us do right now. You'd probably like the weather better. Our gun/any deer season is runs from 2 Saturdays before T'giving until the Tuesday of T'giving week. Sometimes warm. Sometimes 20 degrees with 30 mph wind.

Can you imagine being the other 4 QB's on the team and can't prove you deserve a shot against JG who's thrown 5 interceptions, fumbled the ball 4 times in the last 2 games and has mastered 3 and out?
JG has a higher pct of creating a turnover now than a simple 3 and out. Sad.

Yeah especially with our most talented QB's not even practicing with injuries and COVID.

Good thing for them, it doesn't take much to get better than what we have seen from JG the last couple games.

I'm hopeful we can get to a 5-5 6-4 record with them playing. Just got to get them to game management level by Arkansas. I mostly think Maurer can do it this year. Bailey probably a year away.

C'Mon Man...it's GOTTA be BAILEY!
Glad you posted this throw! Shows that he can put the ball only where his receiver can make a play and it shows that he has confidence in his receiving corps to make those plays. 10/10 times JG doesn't make that throw. This is what a QB does, find the match up and let the receiver make the play. This was probably the only offensive highlight of that game.

Honestly that pass had been the only one JG has made consistently this year. Had some success with it against GA. But HB threw it better there is have to admit.

I do. What state and county

Like I said, I suspected it based on having followed Chaney's career and comparing his previous QB's to JG.

I won't fault you for not believing a random guy on a social media but I have information that came to me privately. I can't reveal where it came from without violating trust.
The Beav?

You might want to choose a different game there Jeremy, breaking in one of the younguns against Bama

I remember when Tennessee started true freshman Tyler Bray against Bama......
Good God, I thought Bama had broken poor old Bray in Half...... thus began his nickname
Rubber Band Man

Mickie has a heart... he'll just be playing is 4-stars, roll up 60 points and then play his scrubs. Final 72-0

Bamas away travel squad is lower in number so the 2nd team of 4 & 5 stars will be playing the scrub time. seems like they’ve been beating us worse in Neyland. We made it close at Bama last year till the -14 point QB sneak and 2015 was 19 to 14.

Several QBs Get Reps in Practice

This is interesting. Tough to know how much to read into a 247 article, but it almost sounds like the coaches want to try out Maurer again. The key phrase being "who will be healthy enough". That really can only refer to Maurer, as JG, Shrout, and Bailey are not injured. Could be reading too much into it, but would not surprise me; he would've likely been QB2 behind JG if not for injuries. In any case, sounds like whether or not JG starts, we'll see at least 1 other QB out there; just a question of who that will be.

Yes someone different with much more potential, even if they come in and have 3 or 4 turnovers, at least you are showing you are trying to win, but if any of them have a turnover, and they probably will, look for jg back again.

This is the likeliest outcome bc our coaches love JG more than Danielson loved Tebow

Not only did Bailey throw this perfectly, Wideman knew this ball as coming and knew it was going to be thrown this way. Which is why it is not a 50/50 ball. This was designed.

Nice touch and placement, and great athletic ability from Wideman.
