What a throw by Maurer https://t.co/2J4XAJfofU
Posting this everywhere today. A reminder that with a decent QB, the Vols are explosive and fun to watch...
I agree barring the hit at the end of the GA game Maurer would have been the starter and JG would no longer be on the roster.Maurer absent the concussion likely would have finished the year as starter. After the UGA game, Pruitt acted like it was obvious that Maurer was the new starter.
Shrout got yanked last year and last week because he still hasn't mastered the plays. In addition to making a bad read and throwing into coverage... Pruitt said he also forgot to send one of the guys in motion which contributed to the pick.
I like his arm but he seems to be way behind in knowledge of the O.
I think you meant the fall on his head. It seems he could have physically returned in the UGA game but it had already begun to get out of hand. Outside of the two terrible decisions vs MSU... he was moving the team and hitting open receivers. Then he had that awkward flip.I agree barring the hit at the end of the GA game Maurer would have been the starter and JG would no longer be on the roster.
Our QB problem is not any of our QB's fault. It is the poor excuse for a QB coach we have. Two of our back ups have been in the system at least two years. If we don't have a next man up by now, it falls squarely on the the QB coach.
I'll be willing to consider that argument when Weinke has someone else to work with. JG had problems with processing information too slow and being unable to anticipate throws long before Weinke showed up. Pruitt made the decision to go with JG in January '19... and force fed him to Chaney and Weinke. It was their job to try to get him to play well. That could only deprive them of opportunities to focus on the others. Our QB problem is not any of our QB's fault. It is the poor excuse for a QB coach we have. This is the kind of lie you repeat... that shows nothing but blind hatred. He didn't slow down. He barely had to adjust. We also had better passes vs UGA this year where the wr did not have slow down and the d was actually respecting the pass.
You can actually throw the TD pass to Palmer in the first game in there too. Those were great passes. JG's errors have gotten him into trouble with Pruitt. But that's not why he holds the O back. It isn't the things he "does" but his limitations that hurt the team. He doesn't do nearly enough of those kinds of plays... and what he CANNOT do gives opposing D's a better chance to limit or prevent what he can do. That's why he had no second half success vs UGA and no success vs UK.So I guess those passes were a reminder too.
Lip service by the head coach

What “comments”? Do you mean the Instagram pic?Dangerous lip service if true. HT's comments seemed to hint at some division on the team over the QB. It was troubling Saturday when after one of the picks the sideline reporter said that only one person tried to encourage JG. Otherwise he just sat alone. Not good. His expressions and body language were bad too.
If he were the guy the team believed in then they would have rallied around him.
I think at this point the competition better be credible or Pruitt will lose this team.
Would you play him if he is injured? I would not.Several QBs Get Reps in Practice
This is interesting. Tough to know how much to read into a 247 article, but it almost sounds like the coaches want to try out Maurer again. The key phrase being "who will be healthy enough". That really can only refer to Maurer, as JG, Shrout, and Bailey are not injured. Could be reading too much into it, but would not surprise me; he would've likely been QB2 behind JG if not for injuries. In any case, sounds like whether or not JG starts, we'll see at least 1 other QB out there; just a question of who that will be.
